‘It is an honour for me to lead the esteemed ISHR European Section’
Dr David Pavlovic, a leading academic at the University of Birmingham, has been elected President of the European Section of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR).
His six year term will be divided into three phases: Two years as President-elect, two years as President and two years as Past President. This appointment recognises Dr Pavlovic’s contributions to cardiovascular research and his leadership within the field.
Established in 1968, ISHR is a leading advocate for cardiovascular research, with over 3,000 members across eight global sections, including Europe and Southeast Asia. The society is dedicated to advancing knowledge and collaboration in heart research.
Dr Pavlovic’s elected role follows a long line of leading international presidents who have significantly contributed to the society’s legacy, four of whom are from the United Kingdom.
In his new role, Dr Pavolvic brings considerable experience, currently serving as the leader of the Cardiac Diseases Theme in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Birmingham. He also has been a member of the ISHR European Section Council since 2023 and serves as the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology PLUS, a journal affiliated with ISHR.
“I am deeply grateful to my colleagues for entrusting me with this privilege. I still remember attending my first ISHR European Section meeting in 2006,” said Dr Pavlovic.
“I am incredibly proud that the ISHR continues to provide a platform for early and mid-career researchers and I will strive to support and represent the diverse views of our community across all career stages.”
