Niamh McAuley resigns as Lancaster University’s elected education officer for 2025/2026

A by-election will be conducted by LUSU to fill the vacancy


Niamh McAuley, who was elected as education officer for the 2025/2026 academic year, has resigned before taking up the role.

As a result, Lancaster University Students’ Union will hold a by-election to fill the vacancy.

The results of the by-election will be announced on Friday 13th June 2025.

The timeline for the by-election is as follows:

Week 22: Monday 28th April: Notice of election

Week 23: Monday 5th May, 10am: Nominations open

Week 25: Friday 23rd May, 6pm: Nominations deadline

Week 27: Friday 6th June: Candidates are announced and campaigning opens

Week 28: Tuesday 10th June, 10am: Voting opens

Week 28: Thursday 12th June, 6pm: Voting closes

Week 28: Friday 13th June: Results are announced

The education officer role involves working with Lancaster University to “advocate for the academic interest of all Lancaster students”, as well as securing the “best possible teaching, resources, research support, and academic opportunities.”

According to Lancaster University Students’ Union, the education officer “works with over 400 student Academic Representatives to help improve the student experience. The elected candidate will be responsible for listening to the student body, engaging with representatives from the university, LUSU’s Trustee Board, and beyond at the highest level, raising the concerns of their fellow students across a range of educational issues.”
