Lancaster Students’ Union President resigns after allegedly facing bullying and harassment
‘I have had to endure a culture of disrespect, hostility and criticism that no leader should ever be subjected to’
Lancaster Students’ Union President Cerys Evans has tendered her resignation on Tuesday 11th March after allegedly facing bullying and harassment from students.
It comes after two consecutive terms as President, beginning in September 2023.
Cerys’s resignation will become effective from 4th April 2025.
In her two years serving as LUSU president, Cerys has represented the voice of Lancaster University students; continuing the supper club, and advocating on national television programme BBC Question Time in February 2023 on the cost of living for university students.
The resignation comes off the heels of the 2025 Students’ Union elections, in which the lack of a female candidates running for the role of President was brought to light.
In her resignation statement, Cerys said: “It is with enormous sadness that I announce my resignation as President of Lancaster University Students’ Union. This has not been an easy decision for me, and I want to take the opportunity to explain why I am stepping down and express my gratitude to the people who have supported me throughout my tenure.”
Cerys then continued by saying she had faced nine months of “bullying and harassment from students which has made it increasingly difficult for me to carry out my responsibilities”.
The outgoing President further added: “I have had to endure a culture of disrespect, hostility and criticism that no leader should ever be subjected to. From inappropriate emails to being consistently spoken over in meetings and watching other female colleagues and student leaders receive the same.”
