MAFS Australia 2025 cast member exposes shady loophole producers exploit to avoid paying cast
‘Nothing could prepare me for what I had signed up for’
Someone from the MAFS Australia 2025 cast has been spilling all the tea, and in one particularly jaw-dropping moment, they claimed a sneaky “loophole” allows producers to save money by not properly paying the cast.
It might be in the name but most of us understand that reality TV is heavily produced and sometimes even scripted. In extreme cases, some have even claimed that the MAFS experts wear earpieces during the commitment ceremonies. The cast is also literally paid to be there, so that throws up questions about people’s motives going into the show.
But while the cast does receive monetary compensation, after all, they are stepping away from their jobs to spend weeks grafting a marriage, the cash sum is a far cry from a livable wage.
The show doesn’t claim to have huge wages, but it also exploits a loophole
Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, a TV source said: “We make sure that the applicants understand that you need to be financially stable because the show has caused problems for people who may have high mortgages or are accustomed to a higher payday.”
Nonetheless, an unnamed cast member said “nothing could have prepared” them for the actual amount of money they receive in compensation.
“Nothing could prepare me for what I had signed up for and while you do get sucked in by the glitz and glamour the remuneration is appalling,” they said. “You get $150 a day plus a $128 food allowance for the week. All up you get $1,178. The way we are paid as ‘contributors’ and not as a proper job is how they can pay you so little.”

Even on those ridiculously long nights when the cast are stuck in tents outside dinner parties, they aren’t paid extra or overtime.
The unnamed snitch added: “Some shoots were twenty hours and paying us as ‘contributors’ is a loophole that allows for no overtime. The weekly ‘dinner parties’ could go well past midnight and the ‘commitment ceremonies’ averaged between eight and 12 hours.”
But the cast is paid for media appearances, right? Of course not.
“You don’t actually get paid for any ‘publicity opportunities’ while the show is on. It’s kind of expected but not enforced,” they said. “All radio, TV, and print are offered by Channel Nine and you can either play along or not,” the source added.
You heard it here folks, if you want to get rich quick don’t be going on MAFS unless you know your glowing personality is going to earn you followers and brand deals.
