This is every spring fashion trend you’ll be seeing on campus at King’s College London

The spring weather may be just about as predictable as your attendance, but you can still look cute

Spring is soon upon us, and while our campus thaws out, so do our wardrobes. It’s nearly time to trade your winter thermals in for a well anticipated appearance of sunshine in London.

Here’s a guide to the trends you’ll spot whilst walking between lectures, so grab your popcorn and learn everything there is to know about looking good for your new campus crush.

Scarf protection

Spring may be starting to spring, but the gale-like wind on Waterloo Bridge will humble you.

Wrapping your hair in a scarf isn’t just chic – it’s survival. Think less rave pashmina, more post-apocalyptic commuter.

The trench (but for mysterious purposes)

Nothing says “I’ve got secrets” like a trench coat.

Whether you’re hiding your pyjama bottoms or a hangover underneath one, it’s the perfect transition coat for the new season.

Football shirts

Whether you’re a die-hard fan, or couldn’t explain what the offside rule is with an actual gun to your head, a football shirt is an effortlessly cool way to show up to your 9am without having to choose comfort over style.

Ballet flats are so back

Finally! It’s time to take a page from Lily-Rose Depp’s book and trade your chunky boots in for a ballet flat.

Strand Campus is about to sound like the Royal Ballet School with the delicate tap-tap-tapping these shoes make. Let’s consider it an homage to our late Amy Winehouse, the ultimate London icon.

Matchy-matchy colour coordination

Think colour-blocking, but in a way that suggests you accidentally made an effort. It’s reminiscent of the feeling of acing an assignment without any last minute scrambling – organised and  effortless.

The boat neck

This one is pretty timeless, but boat neck tops are so in – partly because of their versatility.

I can’t think of any other top you can wear straight from a lecture to drinks without it requiring a second thought.

The chunky jewellery revival

The delicate and modest chains of winter are taking a backseat as students unleash bold, statement jewellery this spring. It’s like putting an exclamation point on an outfit.

If you haven’t got people glaring at you because your bangles are jingling a tad too much, are you even doing it right?

Mary-Kate and Ashley matching

Couples and besties alike are bringing back twinning, and the “unplanned but weirdly coordinated” look is taking over.

This usually entails the same vibe with different executions, though you may spot the rare “our colours match but the silhouette is different” or perhaps “we’re wearing practically the same thing but in different colours”.

Blouses, EVERYWHERE

The humble blouse is back with a vengeance. Ruffled, buttoned, or sleek, they’re here to remind you to apply for that summer internship, because some people have already had a Spring Week.

Individuality

Having said all that, it’s best to treat trends like your required seminar readings: Fun to browse, but not something you have to follow.

Yes – trends are fun and they expose us to new ideas. But the best accessory will never be some viral TikTok trend or your latest Vinted find. It’s whatever makes you you, whether that’s the t-shirt you got given at Freshers’ Fair that stretched out in the wash, or the half-eaten Gregg’s sausage roll you forgot in your uni bag.

It could even be a Pret coffee cup, clutched like you’re holding on for dear life, or simply the book you’ve been reading – the vibe this spring is YOU.
