Squid Game just broke a massive unexpected Netflix record, and it’s not down to views

I guess you could say it has the green light everywhere

Squid Game season two has dominated the Netflix charts since it came out last week, and shows no signs of slowing down. However, Squid Game just broke a massive unexpected Netflix record, and it’s not down to the amount of views it has garnered since its release.

Netflix hasn’t released any viewership details yet – it’s way too early for that, even though we know it’s going to be huge. The record we’re talking about is that Squid Game season two is the first series EVER to debut at number one in all 93 countries where Netflix is available. That includes the major users like the UK and US to the countries with the smallest amounts of subscriptions. Everyone in the entire WORLD tuned in on Netflix to watch Squid Game season two and set this major record. What the actual.

If you’re not sure just how impressive this is, this has NEVER happened on Netflix. Even big shows that do well across the world never debut everywhere at the same time. Not even the original series managed to do this, but season two has taken the world by storm.Squid Game season one managed to hit 2.2 billion hours viewed, but it didn’t have a debut like this, so it’s impossible to know if Squid Game season two will have done better in views. It also has two episodes less than season one did.

Also, Squid Game season two has lower ratings than season one did. It has a 63 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes as opposed to 83 per cent for season 1. It did end pretty abruptly and a lot of people have said it felt like half a season, so maybe season three will be the one to win us all over. Roll on summer 2025!
