McDonald’s worker who spotted Luigi Mangione might not receive $60,000 reward, here’s why
The NYPD offered the reward to anyone with information on the alleged shooter
Despite the NYPD offering a hefty $60,000 reward for anyone who came forward with information about the alleged shooter of Brian Thompson, Luigi Mangione, it seems the McDonald’s worker who reported him might not receive a cent.
When the search first started for the suspect the NYPD offered a reward of $10,000 for anyone with more information and over the weekend this amount was increased to $60,000 after the FBI came in to offer assistance.
On Monday an employee at the McDonald’s in Pennsylvania reported Luigi Mangione to law enforcement after he was seen “acting suspiciously” and mentioned he seemed to have fraudulent documents on his person.
Luigi was then arrested at the scene on five charges after police found he was in possession of fake IDs, a silencer, spare clothes, a ghost gun and a mask which appeared to be the same as the suspected shooter was seen wearing.
However, despite the McDonald’s worker seemingly being crucial to Luigi Mangione getting caught, they might not actually receive any of the $60,000 reward as they cannot nominate themselves to take the money.
As such the worker would have to be nominated to receive the reward money by an agency such as the Department of Defence or the FBI, and this nomination is then reviewed by an interagency committee.
If the application is successful it still has to get signed off by the Secretary of State, who has the final decision on whether the worker would receive the payout.
