Paris Jackson opens up about what strict and secretive childhood with dad Michael was like

Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris has opened up about what her childhood at Neverland was really like in a rare new interview.

The 28-year-old model, actress, and singer went on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast and spoke in detail about the first seven years of her life, when she lived at Michael’s famous California property, which had its own private amusement park, zoo, and train station.

“It was made very, very clear that all of the attractions there were not for us… that did not belong to us. That was for underprivileged children and children that were terminally ill that couldn’t go to like Disneyland,” she said.

Paris explained that the number one rule throughout her childhood was that if she was well-behaved on the weekdays and did her chores, she could have fun on the weekends.

“The cool, like very congruent line throughout my childhood that kind of started there and then just continued on wherever we went was, if you’re good, and you do your chores, and you do your homework, and you do the things that you’re supposed to do. Then on the weekends you can go see some animals, and you can go ride some rides, and you can go to the movies,” she said.

“If we were living in Vegas, and it’s like, ‘Ok, if you’re good you can go to Circus Circus on the weekends.’ Or like we were in like some random place in Virginia. Like, ‘Ok, if you’re good you can go to Chuck E. Cheese this weekend’.”

She continued: “[It was] the same thing with television. We weren’t allowed to watch television or movies unless we were studying it for film with the sound off or on the weekends if we’d done everything we were supposed to.”

However, whenever they went out in public, they were always forced to wear masks, which Paris said “just made sense” at the time because she knew her dad was famous.

“I mean it just, it made sense because it was like, [We were told], ‘If you do this now [wear the mask], you can go to Chuck E. Cheese and be normal because no one will know who you are. Like that made sense to me,” she recalled. But she didn’t realise quite how famous he actually was.

“I just didn’t know how famous … There was definitely part of me that, like when I looked out my hotel window, and it was one of the times where like the alias didn’t work and there’s just like a sea of people with signs and stuff – I’m not so naive to think, yeah, everyone experiences this, you know? I just didn’t understand the lengths.”

Sharing a little bit about their daily routine at Neverland, she added: “I’d wake up, and I’d go to school… I’d wake up and go to the room that was our classroom, and we would go to school.”

Paris has really fond memories of her father, calling him a “really funny guy” before emotionally saying: “That was my best friend.” She also referred to herself as his “little princess”.
