Here’s why GK Barry is being slammed for her take on Disney adults, amid the Peter Pan drama

GK Barry has found herself at the centre of a Disney debate after sharing her thoughts on adults who repeatedly visit the theme parks, and her comments have not gone down particularly well.

The influencer has been criticised after posting a video about the viral “Peter Pan girl”, a Disney fan who has attracted plenty of attention online for her interactions with the character at Disneyland.

The woman in question is actually Toni, who posts under @babytoni99. She has nearly 7,000 followers on Instagram and almost 70,000 on TikTok, with her content almost entirely centred around Disney, from Marvel and Disney princesses to events at the parks.

But her particular obsession is Peter Pan, the Lost Boy who is permanently around 12 to 14 years old. She reportedly visits Disneyland at least once a week and first met Peter more than a decade ago. Her videos have recently attracted criticism, with some people questioning the extent of her interest in the character.

GK Barry then weighed in with her own take, admitting she knew it could get her “cancelled” as she criticised adults who repeatedly return to Disney parks.

She said: “Guys, this is a controversial take. And it could be my 4th cancellation. I’ve seen all about that Peter Pan Disney woman. Adults that go to Disneylands just are a bit weird, aren’t they? And that’s okay. That’s their journey. Sure, I’m not judging. It’s fine. That’s what they wanna do. Why are we shocked?

“And I’m not talking about if you’re going with your kids, or if you’re going the first time just so you can experience it. Cool. It’s the adults that go back and back and back. Do you know what I’m saying? Like, if I’m booking holiday, I’ll probably just go Greece, you know, I’ll go whatever, Thailand, whatever.

“Disneylands? No, no, no, no. Moreover, I’m not gonna queue up for two hours to meet a bloke in a Mickey Mouse costume, because why would I? Like, it’s obviously not Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse is made up. Peter Pan is made up. These people go home and they’re not actually Peter Pan.

“But like, that I don’t want to say anymore because it comes across that. And I’m not talking about people with children. Whatever. But you know exactly the type of people that I’m talking about. And that’s why I’m not shocked, because. Yeah, like, what else? Who else would be there?”

It didn’t take long for people to point out that GK herself has previously attended a Disney premiere for the live-action film.

One person commented: “The same person who attended a disney premiere btw. Were u calling everyone there a bit weird? I doubt it x”

And GK wasn’t the only person to receive backlash over the situation.

A number of people have posted response videos defending Disney fans, including Tracey Beaker actress Dani Harmer, who argued that people should be allowed to enjoy their hobbies without being judged.

Dani said: “How about… don’t yuck someone’s yum, if no one is hurting anyone, then what is the problem? We all have hobbies, we all have interests”.

GK has since commented on TikTok videos defending her, describing the drama as “crazy” and saying she’s received “literal essays” from Disney fans.
