York named as 15th best uni in Sunday Times University Guide

That’s one up from last year

York has ranked an impressive 15th in The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.

Although the University of Leeds have overtaken us and are now placed 14th, York are holding strong in the top 20.

Eight departments were ranked in the top five for their subject and the university was placed in the top 10 for the external impact of its research despite the fact we’ve fallen eight places in the research rankings to 17th place.

Top spots were taken by the usual lineup of Oxford and Cambridge in joint first place followed by Imperial, St Andrews and Durham. The Sunday Times obviously favours the reds as Lancaster have placed 11th but let’s hope they don’t get too cocky since sporting prowess isn’t taken into account.

Unlike the QS world rankings, York St John have not only ranked but have moved two places higher to 89th place out of 127 Universities, whilst the University of Manchester remains 15 places behind us at 28th place.
