Paget Street shock as police close down the joint

Spliffing work from the police

| UPDATED

Police left neighbours baffled and worried when they raided a huge growing operation on Paget Street last Sunday.

The Epinal went out and spoke to the petrified residents on Paget Street to see how they were coping with the absence of their neighbour, Mary Jane.

The feds entered the farm at 3pm and left at 9pm as they closed down the joint. Dope work.

Upon opening her door, Isobel appeared pale and nervous. There was no doubt that the recent news had shaken her up but none the less, she invited me in to discuss the incident.

Isobel told us that coming from London she was used to this kind of thing, but said: “It’s easy to forget that even smaller places like Loughborough have drug busts.

“I didn’t hear the police raiding the house but I’m surprised to hear it happened in such a small town.”

When asked if she would consider moving away from Paget Street she said: “No, this kind of thing happens everywhere. I don’t think of it as really threatening or off putting to that degree.”

Richard Musgrave, a second-year Geography and Management student, shared Isobel’s remarks about Luff being the site of a cannabis farm. He said: “I’m surprised to hear about a cannabis raid in such a small town.”

But Lara Winter, also a second year Geography student is less than surprised as she knows that “there are worst drugs than cannabis happening in Loughborough.”

The Epinal spoke to Frank Ashbourne who was really worried that his dealer “wouldn’t be able to get to his supply.”

He added: “I was really worried to text him incase the feds had tapped into his phone”

After the post-lunch raid, third year Lydia Chapman, who lives next door to the farm, said: “We didn’t know them or even see them at all, so it was a bit of a shock.

“We don’t really know much about what happened.”

When contacted about her reaction to the drug bust, fourth year Product Design Engineer Rebecca Illingworth, was in complete surprise and said she “didn’t know there was one.”

She went on to add that in the case of cannabis and drugs, that they “have never been my scene…” and offered parting words of advice that you should “stay clear from most people taking them as well.” Blunt words.

Her friend, another Product Design student, who wished to remain anonymous shared Rebecca’s surprise as she “didn’t know about it until yesterday”. When asked whether she was worried living so close to this growing operation she commented that “it’s not exactly the scariest crime to be adjacent to.”

It is still unclear whether the green fingered residents were students.
