Casa Amor is axed and new twists: How the All Stars Love Island is actually going to work

The show is only going to be five weeks long!

Love Island: All Stars starts in less than a week, so everyone is talking about how the format of the show is going to play out – will Casa be back? How will the twists work when the Islanders have all been here before?

The new show sees previous Islanders from all seasons come back for the ultimate series, trying to find love once again. But, given the nature of bringing show legends back, they all know what it’s like to be in the villa – so ITV is going to have to shake things up if the Islanders are to be kept on their toes.

So, how will Love Island: All Stars actually work?

Love Island: All Stars will run for five weeks

Love Island: All Stars is replacing the winter series and will be airing on ITV1 and ITV2 for the first time ever. The show will be five weeks long, over the usual eight weeks for the normal series, and kicks off on Monday 15th January. ITV is planning a “HUGE relaunch” for the show.

Former stars of the show will be heading to the South Africa villa, where the winter version of the show was held, and Maya Jama will host. The former Islanders will follow a similar concept to the normal show, cracking on and coupling up and trying to avoid being dumped from the Island. Bombshells will also be added to the villa along the way.

Casa Amor has been scrapped for Love Island: All Stars, with ITV opting for a new twist instead

The big twist of Casa Amor is a bit of a been there done that moment for the likes of the Love Island: All Stars cast, so ITV has opted to drop it and shock the Islanders with something new.

Executive producer Mike Spencer told The Sun: “We aren’t doing Casa Amor this time, but there may be another big twist at the halfway mark. I think we have got to be reactive. These Islanders have done it before, so we have to be one step ahead.

“Not having Casa gives us a way to shake it up and bring in new Islanders in different ways. We have four new single pull-down beds in the living room this time around, so make of that what you will!”

He added that Casa wouldn’t work as well with the show being shorter this time around, and said: “As this run is shorter, the pace will be faster and the show will really hit the ground running.

“These All Star Islanders have a lot of shared histories, so expect the chaos and the drama to happen much quicker. Ultimately, the format is very different on All Stars because producers want to make it feel fresh, exciting and unpredictable.”

It’s also been revealed Aftersun will not be a part of the Love Island: All Stars format, and instead Maya Jama will interview any axed Islanders outside the main villa, straight after their exit. This means episodes with dumpings will be extra long.

An insider told The Sun: “It means Maya will have even more screen time which will thrill viewers, who can’t get enough of her, and also that there will be loads more reaction from the All Stars the second they get dumped. Maya will be getting all the goss, fresh from the firepit.”

‘Nothing is off the table’

Despite the cast so far being all single Islanders, because you know, the idea is to find love, MailOnline has previously reported “spoken for stars could also made cameo appearances on the show” and it’s also been rumoured members of the public *could* enter the villa. However, Love Island never actually said anything about this, so that could have just been a very out-there rumour.

Speaking about the concept and high-drama of the show, a source told The Sun: “Love Island bosses want to make sure they’re out of the ratings slump when winter rolls around for All Stars. They are working out ways to give the show a real kick and to make the format have a lasting impact on viewers.

“At the moment it’s all just an open discussion and there are lots of ideas being put forward. Naturally, there is potential for old rivals to have it out on screen and to put old love triangles back into play.

“But some fresh faces could bring a twist. Will old hands stick with who they coupled up with before, for maximum impact, or risk everything for someone they actually fancy? It would really test out that argument that people now just use Love Island for fame. It’s all very exciting for the team who are working on it because nothing is off the table.”
