All of the clues you missed from The White Lotus opening credits

That intro music really did distract us all from the spoilers

The White Lotus season two opening credits are undeniably mesmerising. The club ready intro music, the sexually explicit art work— it’s hard to look away. And yet, we missed some seriously massive clues about what was going to happen throughout the series that creator Mike White and his team put right there in front of our eyes for seven weeks straight. Duh.

So, just in case you were too busy vibing to The White Lotus soundtrack like the rest of us, here are all of The White Lotus spoilers and clues the opening credits actually gave away from the very start of the series:

Toxic masculinity is the main theme

Mark Bashore and Katrina Crawford, the team behind The White Lotus’ opening sequence have said that there’s a double meaning when an actor’s name appears on the opening credits alongside a certain image. Here, Bert Di Grasso, the old school grandad who attempts to flirt with every woman in his sight is seen laying it on thick with someone. The fact he’s being watched could be a nod to disapproval of the women in his family at home, or the extended family he’s yet to meet in Sicily.

Tanya’s marriage is breaking down

Tanya’s husband Greg is evidently feeling trapped in a marriage he’s not happy in and goes to great lengths to distance himself from. This chained monkey seems to show how he attempts to flee his relationship with Tanya but that she keeps clinging on.

Albie thinks he’s the good guy and tries to flirt

First Portia then Lucia. Albie might try to act like the third-wave feminism class he took at Stanford makes him one of the good guys but his gentleman routine (created to differentiate himself from his father) doesn’t work in the end and Portia just winds up bored.

Daphne is simultaneously clueless and manipulative

“Meghann Fahy gets the cherubs because they’re like [Daphne’s] babies who she’s obsessed with, but they’re also these cheeky creatures in mythology that are wreaking havoc and playing games, which is also sort of characteristic of her,” credit creator Katrina Crawford told Mashable. Additionally, we learn in the series that Daphne is a stay-at-home mum who appears to have fathered her two sons with her personal trainer in the city and not her husband Cam.

Mia will discover her own sexuality

Beatrice Grannò character Mia is represented by a sphinx, which has a woman’s body, birds wings and lion’s tail. According to Greek mythology this represents tree stages of live: baby, adult and later life. While this could represent the Di Grasso family, it also seems to show Mia’s own journey to discovering her own sexuality and confidence as the series goes on.

Greg is taking Tanya into the unknown

Tanya’s husband is luring her down a path and taking her into unknown danger through this season— even the donkey is looking back like he isn’t quite sure about this journey they’re heading on. Also seems to nod to the Monica Vitti inspired moped journey along the coast that nearly kills them both at the start of the series.

Quentin will lure friends in with a party atmosphere

As Tanya said: “These gays, they’re trying to murder me”. But first, they show her a really good time. Here, Tom Hollander’s character Quentin is iving it large on holiday with his friends but Renaissance style, obv.

Valentina disapproves of Lucia and Mia

At the start of the season Sabrina Impacciatore’s character is constantly scolding Mia and Lucia but soon their relationship evolves and she starts to catch feels for Mia.

Dominic begs for his wife back with gifts

Dominic Di Grasso is a serial cheater who can’t seem to get his shit together long enough to stop having sex with prostitutes. To win his wife back, he buys her a necklace in Sicily, which seems to be the grovelling that’s going on here.

Cam gets naked to mark his territory in THAT bathroom scene

One of the standout moments of the season was undeniably when Theo James‘ character Cam got his penis out in front of Harper to make his territory and assert his dominance. In the opening credits, the camera zooms in on this statutes naked groin and shows a dog cocking its leg to symbolise the ultimate disrespect.

Harper will create conflict with the other guests

Aubrey Plaza’s hostile lawyer character Harper is depicted by one bird attacking another. This could represent the anger she has at the start of the series or the conflict she has within herself to get on with the vacation and try to be “nice” in later episodes or address the conflict that’s building between her, Ethan, and Cameron.  Either way, there’s definitely a fight.

Portia is at Tanya’s beck and call

Haley Lu Richardson’s character of Tanya’s assistant Portia has low status and follows her boss around everywhere— sometimes, even when she’s meant to be avoiding her. “She doesn’t know what’s happening. She’s in this beautiful place, but she’s just stuck sitting there.” the credit creators told Mashable.

Ethan’s new found wealth and admiration for Harper

Ethan has just come into a lot of money and has a lot to offer his wife. But at the start of the season he’s timid and waits for her approval before following in her footsteps. This fresco seems to show Ethan offering Harper everything he has while looking down with respect or fear.

Lucia is hunting for prey to feed off of

Simona Tabasco’s character Lucia is always prowling for her next client to target at The White Lotus and is represented as a cat with her prey in her mouth.

Jack isn’t the charming flirt he seems to be

So, as Tanya regretfully tells Portia in episode seven, it turns out Jack is fucking his “uncle” and is shown in the opening credits with a man symbolising Quentin standing over him in a position of power with his foot between his legs— suggesting dominance through sex.

 There will be murder

Obv, this is The White Lotus.

The killer will be a woman

Although it was Tanya who feared for her life after she discovered Quentin and his accomplices plan to kill her off, it’s her that winds up with blood on her hands after she steals Nicolo’s gun and locks herself in the bedroom of Quentin’s super yacht until she can shoot her way out.
