Inside the real life apartment once owned by Jeffrey Dahmer – and if it’s still there now

It’s eerily similar to the one in the Netflix series

Right now, the case of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is back being spoken about, following the release of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story on Netflix. The 10-part series tells the story of Dahmer’s victims, family and neighbours, and shows how Jeffrey Dahmer murdered an estimated 17 men and boys, with most of the murders happening inside his own apartment.

The show is very accurate to what happened in the horrific real life story. Here’s what the real life apartment owned by Jeffrey Dahmer looked like inside, and the current state of the building he once resided in.

Jeffrey Dahmer did really live at the Oxford Apartments block

Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer lived in apartment 213 of the Oxford Apartments, 924 North 25th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. FBI records detail he lived there after living with his grandmother for about nine years. In the show, we see that this apartment is where a number of Jeffrey’s horrific crimes took place.

The apartment building was made up of 49, one-bedroom apartments. The apartment we see in the Netflix show is creepily similar to the one in real life. He really did have the beige battered couch and the fish tank, for example.

There was also a vat of acid found by authorities within his home and stains in his bedroom.

The apartment block was knocked down shortly after the arrest of Jeffrey Dahmer

Nobody lives in the apartment that once belonged to Jeffrey Dahmer now, as the building was knocked down shortly after he was caught. According to reports, the building was demolished just 15 months after the 1991 arrest. Straight after his arrest, a number of the residents left and never returned, the empty flats were put up to rent, but nobody was interested.

The building was bought for $325k by the Campus Circle Project, a “collaborative neighbourhood redevelopment initiative” sponsored by Marquette University. As part of the initiative, the remaining tenants were helped to find new places to live. It was reported at first the project had planned to turn the space into a children’s play area, but that never happened.

Right now, the area is deserted, surrounded by a fence. There’s reportedly been very little interest in the space, as you can imagine. The building has been completely demolished, at the request of the victim’s families. There has never been a memorial placed there.
