These are all the shops and businesses that will be closed for the Queen’s funeral

Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral will take place on Monday 19th September, which has also been confirmed as a one-off bank holiday to allow for the British public to pay their respects to the Queen. One major thing people were unsure of was whether pubs, shops and restaurants would be open on the bank holiday for the funeral. The Government said the decision to close businesses on the day of the funeral was down to individual discretion. Since the announcement of the Queen’s funeral, many shops and businesses have announced they will be closed out of respect for the late monarch.

Lidl

Supermarket Lidl has confirmed its stores will be closed. In a tweet, Lidl wrote: “In honour of Her Majesty and to allow our colleagues to pay their respects, we will be closing all of our stores across England, Scotland and Wales on the day of Her Majesty’s funeral.”

Sainsbury’s and Argos

Sainsbury’s has confirmed it will close all of its supermarkets and Argos stores on the day of the funeral and its online shopping options will be paused. Small Sainsbury’s and its petrol stations will be open from 5pm to 10pm on the day.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our convenience stores and petrol filling stations will be open from 5pm-10pm to allow our customers to pick up essential items, while select stores in central London will open to serve those attending the funeral in person. We thank our customers for their understanding.”

Aldi

Another supermarket that has announced its closure on the Queen’s funeral is Aldi. In a post on social media, it wrote: “As a mark of respect, all Aldi stores across the UK will close on Monday 19th September to allow our store colleagues to pay tribute to Her Majesty The Queen.”

John Lewis and Waitrose

A spokesperson for the John Lewis Partnership, which runs Waitrose and John Lewis confirmed both brands will be closed on the day of the Queen’s funeral.

“When full details of the funeral are confirmed, an exception may be a very limited number of Waitrose stores on the route of the funeral procession to serve members of the public who we know will be lining the route for many hours. These shops will, however, close for the funeral itself,” the spokesperson said.

IKEA

Furniture store IKEA has also announced its closure on the bank holiday out of respect for the Queen.

Primark

Primark has also confirmed it will close 191 stores on the bank holiday to allow those who work for the fashion brand to pay their respects and watch the funeral. The stores will reopen as normal on Tuesday.

Poundland and B&Q

Poundland and B&Q are amongst other brands who have also made the decision to close on Monday 19th September out of respect for the Queen.

Asda

Asda is another supermarket set to close on the day of the funeral. The supermarket plans to close all its stores from midnight on Sunday 18th September to 5pm on Monday and then stores will reopen after the funeral service. The supermarket will also be pausing its delivery services.

Co-op and Iceland

Similar to other stores, Co-op will close its stores until 5pm on Monday 19th September. Iceland has also confirmed its stores will close to allow its colleagues to “mourn in their own way”.

Morrisons

On the day of the Queen’s funeral, all Morrisons supermarkets will be closed and at 5pm its petrol filling stations will be reopened.

Other businesses that have confirmed its stores will be closed include Zara, Marks and Spencer, Dunelm, Kwik Fit, Halfords and Wilko.
