Netflix is creating a Squid Game reality series and the prize is actually $4.56million

I hope the 456 contestants know what they’re signing up to!

I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but Netflix is actually making a reality series version of Squid Game. Yep, remember the biggest show in Netflix history where 456 people fought literally to the death for a cash prize? Netflix is making that, but real. It’s going to be called Squid Game: The Challenge, and I for one am half scared and half extremely excited.

Squid Game: The Challenge has a prize fund set at $4.56million – the largest lump sum prize in reality TV history. 456 contestants will take part, and Netflix has released on open casting call to find them. You can sign up for the show from anywhere in the world, as long as you are English-speaking.

According to Variety, contestants will go through a series of games inspired by the original show, plus new additions, which are all intended to test their strategies, alliances and character as others are eliminated around them. I think we should confirm here, “eliminated” doesn’t mean death like the original show.

Netflix’s vice president of unscripted and documentary series, Brandon Riegg, said: “Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment.

“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”

The Squid Game reality series will consist of 10 episodes and will be filmed in the UK. If you’d like to sign up, visit SquidGameCasting.com, where the site explains: “The stakes are high, but in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed.”

A release date for the Squid Game: The Challenge reality series has not yet been announced. To be the first to know, and for all the latest Netflix news, drops, quizzes and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
