Four new characters have been added to the cast of Bridgerton season two

No, none are the surprise return of the Duke

After the shocking news that Regé-Jean Page will not be in season two of Bridgerton, Netflix has announced that it has cast four new characters for the series.

They might not quite be a shocking U-turn decision on the inclusion of the Duke, but the new characters are sure to spice things up in the new episodes. Announcing the news on Twitter, Netflix said: “Bridgerton has added four actors to Season 2: Charithra Chandran will play Edwina Sharma, Kate’s younger sister and Shelley Conn will play Mary Sharma, Kate’s mother. Also say hello to Calam Lynch who will play Theo Sharpe and Rupert Young who will play Jack.”

Shondaland TV, the production company behind Bridgerton, then shared some more information and character profiles.

Charithra Chandran is Miss Edwina Sharma, and Edwina is described as being taught by her older sister Kate to be the perfect debutante. She’s kind-natured and endlessly endearing. But while she may be young and naive, she also knows what she wants: a perfect love match. You might recognise Charithra Chandran from Alex Rider.

It had already been announced that Simone Ashley would play Anthony’s love interest, and older sister of Edwina. Simone is most known for her role as Olivia in Sex Education and will play Kate Sharma who is called Kate Sheffield in the Bridgerton books by Julia Quinn. Kate is described as a “smart, headstrong young woman”, and when announcing the news Netflix added that she “suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included.”

Adding to the new cast members in Bridgerton season two is Rupert Young as Jack. All we know about Jack is that he “has a connection” to one of the most notable families in the Ton. You might know Rupert Young as Sir Leon in the BBC drama series Merlin.

Calam Lynch has been cast as Theo Sharpe. Theo is described as a hardworking printer’s assistant. However, he’s not just a working class man, he’s an intellectual who fights for the rights for all.

Rounding off the new cast members is Shelley Conn as Lady Mary Sharma – Kate and Edwina’s mother. Lady Mary’s marriage once embroiled her family in a scandal, but now she has returned to London with her daughters and is forced to endure the scrutiny of the Ton all over again. Shelley Conn was in ITV drama series Liar.

There’s no release date for Bridgerton season two just yet, but to be the first to know and for all the latest Netflix news, drops and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
