Lancaster University offers £20,000 to local groups as part of community benefit fund
Applications have opened for community groups in Lancaster and Morecambe to receive part of a £20k fund from the university
Lancaster University has opened applications for the 2026 Community Benefit Fund, in which local groups in Lancaster and Morecambe can bid for a share of £20,000.
In the 12 years it has been running, the Fund has invested over £240,000 in 116 initiatives, aiming to distribute the benefits of the wind turbine on campus across the community.
Since the wind turbine was installed in 2012, it has produced ‘around 15 [per cent] of the overall energy demand on campus each year’, according to Lancaster University’s website.
The Community Benefit Fund allows groups to bid to be allocated part of £20,000 each year in order to ‘support projects that enhance the local environment, strengthen community wellbeing, and contribute to positive, long-term change’, as per Beyond Radio.
Eligible groups include not-for-profit organisations, charities, trusts, community groups, or voluntary organisations and must be within the Lancaster and Morecambe District.
Previous recipients of the fund include The Fairfield Association, Lancaster Boys and Girls Club, the Storey Institute Tasting Garden, De Vitre Community Garden, and the Claver Hill Group.
Groups can apply via the Lancaster University website until Friday 3rd July 2026.
