Everything we’ve learned about Perez Hilton’s recovery as he faces permanent ‘disfigurement’
His healing could take years, a friend said
At the start of August, Perez Hilton was hospitalised after a livestream where he self-harmed in front of influencers and general viewers.
It was graphic, to say the least, with the famed blogger dragging a knife across his body and face. He was hospitalised after police managed to break through his barricades and into the property.
Perez has been in hospital ever since, and though he’s yet to officially comment on the moment, enough information has been released to give us a brief look at his treatment and recovery.
His family shed some light on his treatment
Shortly after the incident, Perez Hilton’s family issued a statement that referenced the long road ahead. They said he was detained under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows medical professionals to hold patients for psychiatric evaluation without their consent.
“Perez’s condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday,” they said.
“As our family remains focused on Perez’s treatment and recovery, we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation.”

Two weeks on from the incident, Perez Hilton has been moved to inpatient care at an undisclosed facility. This includes around-the-clock care from both physical and mental health professionals.
“At this time, Perez remains hospitalised and is receiving the medical care he needs. His treatment is continuing in an inpatient setting under the care of a dedicated team of medical and mental health professionals,” his family announced on his website. “For now, Perez’s health remains the priority as his team keeps the site active and moving forward.”
At the same time, family sources spoke to the Daily Mail about the lasting effect of his mental health crisis. Though he’s physically “going to be ok”, his injuries required “extensive stitching” that will leave “lots” of scarring.
Perez could be recovering for years to come
Though it’s still early days, a friend of the blogger told reporters last week that he still doesn’t fully comprehend what happened.
“But he doesn’t have a lot of presence of mind. He’s not able to fully process what happened,” the friend said.
In fact, it could take months, or even longer, as they explained: “This is not going to be something where in five days, I’m like, ‘he’s fine,’ This is months, maybe years.”
His sister echoed that statement, suggesting it’s going to be a “long” process.
He’s found God in the hospital

Outside of his physical and emotional recovery, family sources said that Perez has turned to God for spiritual healing.
“He has a bible with him and he’s really reading it. Praying,” they explained. “He’s really committed to it.”
