Hayden Panettiere’s comments about ex partner Brian Hickerson are heartbreaking to read now
She described their relationship as ‘very dark’
Hayden Panettiere’s former boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother Zach were reportedly at the same apartment complex where the Heroes actor suffered cardiac arrest and died earlier this week.
According to a police report, the Hickerson brothers were the ones who called 911 over the weekend. The Greenville Police Department confirmed the detail on Tuesday.
A preliminary investigation found no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances, while the Greenville County Coroner’s Office said there were no signs of trauma that would have contributed to Hayden’s death.

Hickerson’s presence at the scene has inevitably brought his past relationship with Hayden back into focus. The pair had an on-again, off-again relationship which began in 2018, after meeting in West Hollywood.
Hayden later described multiple alleged instances of abuse by Hickerson in her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, which was released in May.
The relationship appeared to come to an end in 2020 amid the allegations. While promoting her memoir, Hayden spoke openly about trying to break away from an abusive partner.
“Abusers – they weave themselves like weeds into your life,” she said on Jay Shetty’s podcast in May.
Following Hayden’s death, her mother Lesley Vogel told US outlets that her daughter had been trying to put distance between herself and Hickerson, but had “lost her way”.
Hickerson, now 37, is an aspiring actor from South Carolina. During his relationship with Hayden, he was arrested several times. In 2021, he was sentenced to 45 days in jail for domestic violence.

Hayden’s memoir also detailed the severity of the alleged abuse. In one incident, she wrote that Hickerson beat her so badly that she stayed inside her home for weeks afterwards. She said she chose not to report the abuse to police because she did not want the public to find out what had happened.
In 2022, Hayden spoke about the relationship publicly in an interview with People, describing the period as incredibly difficult.
“It was a very dark and complicated time in my life. But a lot of women go through what I went through, and I want people to know it’s okay to ask for help,” she said.
