A man has died after falling from Harvey Nichols building in Edinburgh city centre

Police were called to St Andrews Square following reports of someone ‘falling from a height’

A man has died after falling off a Harvey Nichols building in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

Police and multiple ambulance crews were called to the scene outside of the Harvey Nichols building in St Andrews Square at around 11.35am on the 19th August. 

This came after they received several reports from members of the public of a man “falling from a height’.”

The man was confirmed dead to the public by Police Scotland just before 2pm on 19th August.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: “Emergency services attended however the man was pronounced dead a short time later.”

Passersby reported seeing a green police tent set up outside of Harvey Nichols, while they evacuated the building and contained the scene. 

St Andrew Square has been limited to one lane at the scene, with the pavement outside of Harvey Nichols closed to the public. Although, Multrees walk also remains open nearby for pedestrians. 

The closed area is said to only affect bus routes CS1 and ET1, which are both sightseeing tour buses. Any other bus routes are being diverted from St Andrew Square to South St David Street until “further notice.”

A Police Scotland said enquiries are ongoing.
