The internet is really weird about Tom Holland and Zendaya, and we need to talk about it
It’s getting concerning
I know we all love Tom Holland and Zendaya’s relationship, but people are starting to get really weird about them, and it needs to stop.
It’s Spider-Man season, which means it’s time for another round of Tom and Zendaya press. This time it’s even more intense, as the pair are also in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey together – and secretly got married earlier this year. Safe to say, it’s been a Tomdaya takeover across social media, and I’ve been loving it. For such a celebrity couple, they’ve managed to keep the details of their relationship tightly under wraps, so I’ve been enjoying the occasional glimpse here and there into their lives.

Leave Tomdaya alone, before they stop doing interviews together
But people on social media have started to get really weird about the couple. First, it was the viral AI pictures of their secret wedding. I get the demand – I’m dying to see Zendaya’s wedding dress as much as the next person, but creating fake versions is not going to encourage that and is really quite strange.
But people took it from strange to crossing a boundary when those viral Tomdaya baby announcement videos were shared. In these clips, AI Tom and Zendaya excitedly hold up a positive pregnancy test, then show off a baby room that’s entirely Spider-Man-themed. There are even fake pictures of a pregnant Zendaya holding up an ultrasound.

While some people might think this is harmless, I think it’s just way too far. There have been many conversations about what parasocial behaviour looks like and the need for celebrities to set boundaries – which I bet is why both Zendaya and Tom say they’ve taken a step back from social media. They may be famous, but they’re real people with real lives, who are entitled to privacy. The fact that millions of people are frothing at the mouth for a pregnancy announcement from them is just straight up weird.
We don’t know these people. They don’t know us. Let’s continue to stick to watching their films, liking their interviews, and moving on with our lives – before they completely stop sharing anything about their personal lives altogether.
