A new ranking has revealed that Durham is 10th in the UK for producing CEOs, and surprisingly, Oxford isn’t at the top…

Research from Capital On Tap finds that Durham sits comfortably at number 10, with the number of graduates who go on to become CEOs standing at 4,178.

The company analysed LinkedIn data to determine which UK universities produced the greatest proportion of business leaders and freelancers. It turns out the number of founders stands at an impressive 6,051, making the university a top-10 institution in the business world.

LSE stands at number one

This news comes as the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) tops all criteria, with 19.34 per cent of its 326,403 alumni securing business leadership roles.

Those roles include 19,012 CEOs, 28,943 founders and 15,162 managing directors.

The University of Cambridge closely follows with 17.21 per cent of its graduates taking up such positions, with Oxford and Westminster at fourth and fifth.

The University of Manchester ranks at number eight, championing 10,569 CEOs and over 15,000 founders for a large alumni count of 300,422.

12.05 per cent of Durham alumni are business leaders

12.05 per cent of Durham’s 124,739 graduates have gone on to secure leadership roles in the business sector.

Impressively, Durham boasts a considerable 4,804 managing directors. Not bad, and the stats have probably got a lot of us humanities students reconsidering our degree choices.
