Robbery suspect caught when he walked behind TV crew doing a news segment about him
‘This never happens’
A robbery suspect was caught after he walked behind a TV news crew that was filming a segment literally about him and his alleged crimes. You couldn’t make this up.
The man in question had been suspected of committing a number of crimes in the Colorado area. A news crew filming in Idaho Springs was filming a segment about what had happened, when the man believed to have committed the crimes literally walked behind them.
Richard Applequist was filmed walking down the street, as news of his alleged crimes was being discussed. The news anchor was, of course, in complete disbelief. “Yo you see this person right here,” he said to another member of the crew. “Put the camera on him.”
CBS anchor Justin Adams has since said he received a description of the suspect from the Sheriff’s Office just moments before noticing the man behind him. The news crew called police, and the suspect was arrested around 10 minutes later. “Deputies and Idaho Springs Police quickly responded to the area and were able to locate and arrest Applequist,” a news release said.

The news outlet shared the clip to Instagram, and added the caption: “This never happens.” I mean, true. “God set him up,” someone in the comment said.
Recalling the wild situation in the CBS Colorado studio, anchor Justin Adams said: “I was kind of more in a sense of disbelief that wait a minute, this is the guy who I’m literally just talking about and described on live TV. He’s right now crossing the street, so I said, ‘Hey, put your camera on him’.
“We don’t know what it’s going to be, but if nothing else, we make sure that we have that footage, and it turned out that was the individual as well.”
Truly incredible.
