‘It’s all for drama’: People have evidence the MAFS experts are setting couples up for failure

They’re not happy

The MAFS UK audience is not holding back this week. Many are convinced that the “science” of the matches has been completely thrown out the window this season, and that experts Paul Brunson, Charlene Douglas and Mel Schilling are just putting people together to stir drama.

On last night’s episode, Maeve, 29, was paired with Joe, 31. She described herself as a party animal, while Joe explained in his vows that he’d previously hit rock bottom from too much drinking and clubbing – his mum even staged an intervention. Now working as a personal trainer, he’s determined to keep his new lifestyle on track.

From the second Maeve walked down the aisle, the alarm bells were deafening. She nervously admitted she needed a drink to get through the ceremony, while Joe muttered that he worried she was a “partygirl.” At the reception, she doubled down, happily calling herself “wild” and “argumentative” when drunk, which only seemed to confirm his fears.

The teaser for tonight’s episode already shows the couple arguing over alcohol, and viewers are convinced they were mismatched deliberately. Twitter is full of furious posts, with one person declaring: “Nice work, experts – pairing a guy who’s been at rock bottom from partying with a boozy party girl.”

Another added: “They’re matched intentionally, just not for love – only for drama and viewing figures.”

This comes after viewers claimed that another couple from the series, Sarah and Dean, have been poorly matched.

Dean attempted to break the ice at the top of the aisle, rapping for his new wife, something which didn’t go down well with Sarah. But the disappointment didn’t end there, with Sarah going on to reveal she wasn’t physically attracted to him, before telling him her usual type is a bad boy who ‘looks like he’s just got out of jail’.

As Dean confirmed he’s a ‘very good boy’ and described himself as a ‘mummy’s boy’, he later went on to sing for his wife during the wedding reception, which again left her feeling awkward and unhappy. Despite Dean’s best efforts to impress his new wife, Sarah told the camera she can see why they’ve been matched, but continued to admit she sees it as “friend vibes”. And, “she didn’t go on the show to find a friend”.

After seeing the awkwardness between the two unfold, viewers were quick to express their thoughts on social media, with many slamming the experts for pairing them together in the first place. One wrote: “Why on earth did these two get matched”, with another adding: ‘I’m sure the experts do it on purpose! Put polar opposites together, it’s a shame though, Dean is so sweet.”

At this point, the audience isn’t buying the “compatibility tests.” Instead, the mood is clear: Everyone thinks the experts are playing matchmaker for chaos.
