MAFS UK bride Sarah has finally addressed her ‘insensitive’ comments about Dean’s weight
‘I am simply a 32-year-old woman’
MAFS UK has only just started, and there’s already drama. Sarah got into some hot water with viewers last night after lots of people said her comments about her husband Dean were “insensitive”, and she’s shared three different responses to the backlash.
Aberdeen-based bride Sarah and her partner Dean’s wedding aired over the weekend, and it was obvious to viewers that Sarah wasn’t happy with who the experts have paired her with.
When asked what would make Dean more attractive to her, Sarah said: “maybe if he lost a bit of weight and got some tattoos.”
But things only got more intense in last night’s MAFS episode, when Dean directly asked her if his weight was an issue. Sarah admitted it was, and said she was just trying to be honest, but Dean said this admission hurt his feelings and brought him back to high school days, where girls would overlook him because of his size.
Viewers were outraged by Sarah’s words, and she took to social media to share several responses.
First, she shared an Instagram Story reposted from the MAFS UK account.
“We love how invested you are in all are in our couples and their journeys,” the statement says.
“But please remember – they’re real people with real lives.”
Sarah then posted a now-deleted Instagram Story addressed to the “trolls”.
“So many people inspire me to be nothing like them,” the quote said.
Finally, Sarah shared a picture of her and Dean on their wedding day, along with a. lengthy Instagram caption addressing all the drama.

“Not every conversation, emotion, or bit of context makes it to air,”she said. “There have been many lighter, happy moments – including plenty of laughter during our honeymoon – that viewers have not seen.”
Besides the weight-related comments, the honeymoon clips aired included Sarah getting the ick from Dean barking in bed and making plant puns during their romantic date in a garden.
She continued: “I take full accountability for the things I have said, even if they don’t always reflect how I would normally express myself. This was a unique and intense environment, and I did my best to remain honest and open throughout.”
Sarah ended the statement by reminding everyone she’s only human.
“At the heart of it, I am simply a 32-year-old woman who decided to take a leap into something completely new. I have always been honest with Dean, and while not everything has been shown, we shared many genuine and positive moments together during filming.”
The comment on Sarah’s posts are limited, but are full of support from other MAFS contestants, including Hannah Norburn from last year’s season and Anita Baker from this year.
Dean hasn’t directly responded to the reactions online, but shared the same MAFS UK statement on his Story, reminding viewers that people on the show have feelings too.
