People think this savage song on Jade Thirlwall’s album is a diss track about Jesy Nelson
‘Can’t be there for you without negatively impacting my mental health’
Today marks the long awaited release of Jade Thirlwall’s debut album, That’s Showbiz Baby! It’s a project that any music fan has been absolutely gagging for since Jade released Angel Of My Dreams last year – an astonishing and critically acclaimed debut single that she’s followed up with a stream of bangers and acclaimed festival sets including one at Glastonbury. Even American music audiences, who famously never gave a damn about Little Mix despite how hard the group tried to break into the US market, seemingly have all eyes on Jade. But there’s one song on the Jade album that has everyone talking because people think it’s a diss track aimed at Jesy Nelson – Natural at Disaster. It’s absolutely savage, and there’s lots of evidence at how this might be about the notorious fallout between Jesy and the rest of Little Mix.
Their relationship deteriorated after Jesy left the band in 2021
When Jesy Nelson left Little Mix in 2021 to prioritise her mental health, there was an outpouring of love for her and it seemed like she was on good terms with Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne. But when Jesy Nelson quit the band and then quickly released her debut single Boyz – drama erupted. The song was marred with controversy around allegations of ‘blackfishing’ – with people criticising Jesy for appearing racially ambiguous and wearing heavy tan.
Couple this with a Nicki Minaj feature which resulted in more drama after Jesy went live with Nicki on Instagram and didn’t shut down some brutal things Nicki said, rather just laughing along with it, and all the girls and Jesy ended up unfollowing each other on Instagram.

Things have seemed like they’ve been on the mend in recent months however, with the girls showing more support for each other on social media. But now with the release of the new Jade album, there’s one savage track that people think is a diss at Jesy Nelson and honestly the lyrics do kinda hold up.
‘Your ignorance kinda scares me’
The Guardian was one of the first publications to publish its review of That’s Showbiz Baby, giving Jade a very complimentary four star glowing verdict. But Laura Snapes highlighted the song Natural at Disaster, saying “Natural at Disaster almost certainly reads former Little Mix bandmate Jesy Nelson her rights, after she burned through several metric tons of goodwill with a racially insensitive solo debut and kept slating her ex-bandmates for headlines.”
This of course had people investigating the subtext between the lyrics now the album released today. The lyrics to Natural at Disaster are brutal – and it’s easy to read into the relationship between Jesy and Jade and feel like there could be a major connection here.
The first verse alone is pretty damning, with Jade writing:
“It’s hard to love you when you hate yourself
Can’t be there for you without negatively impacting my mental health
Tryna fix you made me break myself
It’s like I’m a moth to the toxicity
You reeled me in, I’m addicted to narcissistic qualities
But now your ignorance kinda scares me
(Someone’s gotta say it)”
Elsewhere in the track, Jade says brutal lines like “You were all snakes no ladders, you’re happiest when you make me sadder, tried to help you but it didn’t matter.” She also writes “everything you do is problematic” and then the savage “can’t get through to you unless I go down to your level – I’m pretty sure you’re the devil.”
Of course, it may not be about Jesy – or might have been written when things were a bit more raw between the pair. Jesy said that Jade’s debut Angel of my Dreams was “a vibe” on social media when it came out. In August, Jade gave an interview where she said despite all the drama she still feels really “protective” about Jesy.
