Perrie Edwards reveals Zayn Malik messaged her years after they split, and she ‘panicked’

Perrie Edwards has opened up about her relationship with Zayn Malik for the first time in years in a new interview, and she revealed he actually reached out to her years after they split.

Speaking on Paul Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, the Little Mix singer said their relationship was “pretty easy at first” but then it got “more difficult,” and she even described the whole thing as “toxic”.

Then, she revealed he randomly reached out to her three years after they split. People have done the maths and worked out this would have been in 2018, which is around the time Zayn and model Gigi Hadid broke up for the second time.

Perrie said it was really awkward because she had to tell her current fiancé, footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, that Zayn had messaged her and they hadn’t been dating for long at the time.

“I remember there was one point my ex [Zayn] reached out and I didn’t know how to handle the situation because I’d been with Alex for like a year and a half, two years. And I felt a bit uncomfortable about it,” she said.

“I remember sweating and panicking thinking, ‘I’ve got to tell him that obviously I’ve spoken to him’. And I remember being terrified thinking, ‘Oh no.’ And then I sat down and I was like, ‘I need to tell you something’.

“He was like, ‘Okay, everything alright? I was like, ‘Yes, such and such reached out today and it was really weird’. And he was like ‘What?’ So I told him everything, and then he was like ‘Okay, well I really appreciate you telling me. Thank you for letting me know. That’s fine. Hopefully he doesn’t contact you again’.”

Perrie said Alex, who she met in 2016 on the celeb dating app Raya, is very “mature,” which explains why he dealt with Zayn randomly reaching out so calmly.

“He’s very mature. He’s very laid back. He’s very level-headed. He’s not the type to get mad or get angry or get funny about things. It might sound boring to some, but it’s so unproblematic,” she said.

They welcomed their baby boy Axel in August 2021 and got engaged the following year in June 2022, but still haven’t set a wedding date yet. Zayn is currently single, but shares a daughter called Khai with Gigi Hadid.
