Friend reveals struggles TikTok mum who killed family in supposed murder-suicide went through
‘We were shocked and caught off guard’
A family friend of the TikTok mum who is believed to have killed her husband and two children in a murder-suicide has revealed the struggles she went through.
Emily Long, 34, is thought to have shot her husband, Ryan, 48, and their two older children at their home in Madbury, New Hampshire, on Monday, August 18. A toddler was also in the house but was unharmed. An autopsy report confirmed that Emily’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted.
Neighbours and relatives have been left in shock. One neighbour described the family as “perfect,” while a cousin said Emily had loads of family around to help.

A family friend told the Daily Mail about Emily’s struggles and support network. “She had also left her job but was unhappy with her career, and they were obviously struggling with money and at risk of losing the house,” the friend said.
“Emily had a network of friends around her who knew what she was going through. And even so were still shocked and caught off guard.”
Ryan, a psychologist at a local middle school and a professor at Plymouth State University, had been seriously ill. Emily had recently left her job at a local chicken wings restaurant. The friend said she had been struggling to balance caring for him, the children, and herself.
“Ryan was bedridden, from what I gather he was undergoing chemotherapy. He was just weak and sick. Emily had been fairly open about struggling with severe depression and not knowing how to explain to the kids that they were going to lose their father,” the friend revealed.

Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati told WMUR that authorities continue to investigate the case and warned against speculation, “I think the big thing is to not speculate one reason why something like this would happen. Homicide and suicide is usually much, much more complex than just one reason. There’s still more information we’re trying to gather to narrow down different things.”
