Cousin says mum who killed her family in believed murder-suicide had so much support

The relative is in complete ‘shock’

A relative of the mum who killed her family in a suspected murder-suicide while her husband was battling brain cancer has spoken out and claimed she was surrounded by support.

Emily Long is believed to have shot her husband Ryan and two children at their home in New Hampshire, Madbury on Monday 18th August. They were found with gunshot wounds, and an autopsy report confirmed her wound was self inflicted.

She had been making TikTok videos about how much the family was struggling with the cancer diagnosis, but one of her husband’s unnamed cousins has claimed they had loads of family around to help.

“This is why we’re just all so in shock. We have a lot of family, a lot of friends, that would do anything for them. Because you know, they would do it too,” they told The Boston Globe.

However, in TikTok videos posted in the weeks leading up to the tragic incident, Emily repeatedly spoke about being “lonely” and having nobody around to talk to after her kids went to bed.

The unnamed cousin revealed that Ryan was a psychologist at a middle school. He was also a professor at Plymouth State University. Emily worked at a local chicken wing restaurant.

Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati told WMUR investigators are still exploring the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and urged people not to speculate.

“Some that involved the idea of what was going on with the money situation, with the health situation, I think the big thing is to not speculate one reason why something like this would happen,” he said.

“Homicide and suicide is usually much, much more complex than just one reason. There’s still more information we’re trying to gather to narrow down different things.”

The cousin said relatives are all coming together in New Hampshire to grieve together.
