The 10 most ridiculously expensive uni cities in the UK for students to rent in, revealed
No prizes for guessing where’s number one
Going to uni in the UK is very expensive, regardless of which uni you end up at. But the rent in some cities is extra extortionate. The student accommodation site StuRents has worked out which the ten most expensive UK cities are for students to rent in. These prices are truly harrowing.
Nine out of 10 of the cities on this list are home to Russell Group unis. This is pretty concerning, because if high-ranking unis are in expensive places, that it’s harder for people from less privileged backgrounds to go to them. The one city on the list without a Russell Group uni is Guildford. The University of Surrey is the largest one there.
Unsurprisingly, London is the most expensive place for students to rent in the UK. Students at London unis can actually get higher maintenance loans, because the cost of living is so much higher in the capital than in other parts of the country. But rents in other cities aren’t too far behind London.
StuRents looked at the prices of student accommodation halls and the cost of house shares to work out the average weekly rent for students in different parts of the UK.
So, here are the ten most expensive cities in the UK for students to rent in, according to StuRents.
10. Exeter – £182 per week
