TikToker behind viral Krispy Kreme sound accuses brand of using her in an ad without consent

Annie Korzen claims she wasn’t credited or paid when they used her iconic video

“Have you ever had a Krispy Kreme – was it crispy” is one of the most iconic TikTok sounds of all time – birthed in the pandemic era of the app. Annie Korzen, the American actress who went viral with the video and originated the sound, has 16.8 million views on that post and the sound has been used in over 14,000 additional TikTok videos from her OG sound. Now, Annie Korzen – the TikToker behind that sound – is calling out Maxibon for using her clip and the sound on their official TikTok account for a new advert promoting the collab its doing with Krispy Kreme – where she claims the company did not credit or pay her for doing so.

‘Something rather disturbing just happened’

Annie Korzen posted a video to her TikTok where she claims “Something rather disturbing just happened and I want to share it with you. As most of you know, during the pandemic I created a video that went viral. It used the term ‘was it crispy, right, right’. I’ve been very astounded and amazed and pleased at the response it’s gotten. People to this day still tell me they say those terms every day. They use those words every day. It gives them a lot of pleasure.

“If I’ve given a lot of pleasure to people even though it wasn’t on purpose – I think that’s great. But what happened recently is there a collaboration between Maxibon and Krispy Kreme and they have put up a video using me, using my image, using my words to sell their product. I am not credited, I am not paid for it.

“I think this happens all the time. Do you think big corporations take advantage of people like me because I’m a woman? Because I’m an older woman? Because they consider I have no clout? I don’t know. We tried contacting them and we got no response. Now, I’m not here to tell you to bully them or harass them – I’m not interested in that. What I’m interested in is fairness, in credit, in compensation and respect.”

TikToker Annie Korzen also stresses in the comment that she doesn’t think Krispy Kreme is to blame for “the issue”.

The video on Maxibon Australia also features a comment from Annie saying “I am not being paid or credited with being in this ad. What’s up with that?”
