Disposable BBQs cause alarm for wildfires on Lancashire peatlands
Warnings were issued by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service
Wildfire warnings have been issued by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) in response to abandoned disposable barbecue trays left in fields and woodland areas.
These trays can spark unseen fires beneath the surface if not distinguished properly.
The warning said lighting these trays or campfires on grassy areas can cause unmanageable wildfires.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service have reportedly stopped many fires caused by discarded barbecue trays in remote fielded areas across the county’s peatlands.
LFRS also posted photos on Facebook, showing the result of fires caused by these trays and what they have been dealing with.

The trays stay hot for some time even when extinguished, and the embers and this retention of heat on the disposable trays can cause large-scale fires if they encounter flammable materials like wood and grass.
When using disposable barbecue trays, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service ask that people place them on bricks or level ground, not on grassy or wooden surfaces.
