Suzie Skinner and JP Miller’s affair allegations explained, after Death of the Pastor’s Wife

Netflix’s new true crime documentary Death of the Pastor’s Wife has put the complicated history surrounding pastor John-Paul ‘JP’ Miller and his late wife, Mica Miller, back under the microscope.

Mica was found dead beside a riverbank in April 2024 after suffering a single gunshot wound. Her death was ruled a suicide and happened shortly after she served JP with divorce papers. The documentary also explores allegations surrounding JP’s relationship with Suzie Skinner, who he later married.

Suzie and JP have faced claims that they began a relationship while they were both still married. However, both have denied having an affair, and the exact timeline of their relationship remains disputed.

Suzie Skinner was previously married to Christopher, a veteran who became paralysed from the neck down following a car accident involving a drunk driver. She reportedly met Christopher during his rehabilitation, and the pair later had two children together.

Christopher was a complete C5-C6 quadriplegic and was described on his own website as being paralysed from the chest level down. Suzie previously spoke publicly about their life together while fundraising for a beach-friendly wheelchair for Christopher.

Christopher was found unresponsive in a swimming pool in 2021. His death was ultimately ruled to have been caused by ‘asphyxiation due to drowning’ and was classified as accidental. Surveillance footage from the pool showed his wheelchair stopping at the edge before accelerating into the water.

The circumstances later attracted renewed attention amid claims from Christopher’s family that he had discovered details of an alleged affair between Suzie and JP shortly before his death. However, these remain allegations made by members of Christopher’s family. Suzie and JP have denied that they were having an affair.

The case was also investigated again, but no probable cause was found to bring criminal charges. Suzie and JP have never been charged in connection with Christopher’s death.

Christopher’s family have spoken about their anger over the events immediately following his death. They were particularly upset that JP was reportedly contacted and arrived at the scene before they did.

The allegation is that Suzie and JP began a relationship while they were both married. Christopher’s family have claimed that Christopher learned about the alleged relationship before his death. JP has strongly disputed this version of events.

According to JP, there was no affair, and he and Suzie did not begin dating until well after both Mica and Christopher had died. Their relationship eventually became a marriage. JP and Suzie married in June 2025, making Suzie his third wife.
