People think Lisa had Rosa Parks on her Met Gala underwear, and this might be the reason why

The portraits were designed by artist Henry Taylor

Blackpink songstress Lisa has been a huge topic of discussion following the Met Gala after she sported a Louis Vuitton tailored suit jacket and underwear that bore embroidered portraits of women. One of the faces in particular, which people have claimed was Rosa Parks, drew criticism.

“Maybe I just don’t wanna see rosa parks on LISA’s ass cheeks and that’s my fault,” one person wrote, as another said, “Why does Lisa have Rosa Parks in her pants? One of the historic women who fought against racism.”

“So, Rosa Parks, who literally risked her life for civil rights, is now lingerie decor? And the defence is ‘Lisa might not know her yet??’ Sorry, but ignorance isn’t edgy and also, what do you mean by ‘Rosa Parks stans?’ This isn’t a rap beef,” a third argued.

But breaking through the noise, what was the purpose of the alleged Rosa Parks nod?

The lore behind Lisa’s Rose Parks underwear at the Met Gala

Rosa Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement who famously refused to move to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her defiance of Jim Crow laws sparked the Montgomery bus boycott, hence why she’s often referred to as the “mother of the civil rights movement.” With the 2025 Met Gala theme paying special tribute to Black culture, Rosa Parks’ inclusion could have been a powerful statement if done correctly.

Lisa excelled at the dress code, “Tailored For You”, in her Louis Vuitton tailored jacket, bodysuit, and hosiery, but the portrait designs seen across her body were actually the work of artist Henry Taylor, which might explain some of the reasoning behind the supposed Rosa Parks nod.

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Henry is a world-renowned artist who has long championed Black people from his own life, history, and the wider world.

“Taylor’s subjects, which range from members of the black community to symbolic objects representative of historical struggle, span the breadth of the human condition; each work is a holistic visual biography and permanent record of a person or people’s history,” a portion of his bio reads.

It’s not the first time Henry Taylor has worked with Louis Vuitton either, with his portraits first popping up as embroidery on the suits of Pharrell Williams’ first collection in 2024. Louis Vuitton has since shared that the images on Lisa’s ensemble were “portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life”, but they did not confirm nor deny that it was Rosa Parks.

Though it’s completely plausible that Rosa Parks was included in one of Henry Taylor’s designs, that naturally leads us to question why. He proboably didn’t have a hand in actually designing the clothes, but why would the famed civil rights leader be included on the underwear of all places?

Now we’ve just got to wait for one of the people involved in Lisa’s ensemble to speak out.
