The pop girlies were out in force for the Met Gala so here are their gawgeous outfits, ranked

Apparently, some of them can’t read because where was the tailoring??

Once again, the 2025 Met Gala was a smash hit as everyone from pop stars to Hollywood royalty posed for pictures to varying success. You could spend weeks mulling over the specific details of each carefully chosen outfit, but it largely comes down to one question: Does the celebrity’s ensemble match the Met Gala’s theme?

This year, after successes with camp, American fashion, and religion, the Met Gala asked its attendees to stick to the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme, but what does that actually mean?

“Black dandyism has always been about more than aesthetics. It has been about identity, power, and resistance,” Vogue explained. “In a world where Black people have been marginalised, the dandy became a figure who defied the rigid categories of race and class that sought to confine them.”

Without further ado, here are the pop girlies and their Met Gala outfits ranked.

15. Shakira’s Met Gala outfit was meh

Shakira’s hips might not lie, but they proboably should because she didn’t even attempt to keep with the theme of the 2025 Met Gala. It was by no means an awful dress, but that train is another thing entirely. It’s giving crumpled-up bed sheets.

14. Lisa had Rosa Parks on her Met Gala outfit

Blackpink’s Lisa was definitely on theme for the Met Gala, even if she was one of Louis Vuitton’s MANY pantless muses. The tailoring was there, albeit with little payoff, but I just can’t get over the stitching of Rosa Parks on her underwear. A powerful tribute to the civil rights activist would have been perfect, but at the very least, have her face stitched on the jacket and not the underwear.

All in all, this look would have been better suited for the Grammys, not an evening known for high-fashion moments with deep meanings.

13. Dua Lipa was on the Met Gala red carpet with her fiancée

I love Dua Lipa and Callum Turner as much as the next Brit, but again, Dua’s outfit just wasn’t on theme. She looked gorgeous in the Chanel dress, but there was just a lot going on: 45,000 embroidered elements, a sheer skirt, feathers around the hips, a cape, sheer gloves, and the list goes on.

In the famous words of the designer she wore: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

12. It’s been four years since Lorde was at the Met Gala

I hated Lorde’s Met Gala fit the first time I saw it, after all, it was basically just a skirt and a floating piece of fabric across her chest. However, I’ve changed her placement on this list three times because the more I look at it, the more I enjoy the simplicity.

11. Megan Thee Stallion should have skipped the Met Gala

Did Megan Thee Stallion look absolutely stunning at the 2025 Met Gala? For sure, but this fit was basically just a beautiful dress, and Megan could pull off anything.

10. Elton John, sorry, Chappell Roan

Chappell Roan managed to keep what makes her unique whilst also sticking to the tailoring theme of the Met Gala, and it has to be applauded. That being said, all I’m seeing is Elton John.

9. Sabrina Carpenter was banned from wearing pants at the Met Gala

Sabrina Carpenter was banned from wearing pants because of her height, but I think that’s exactly what this Louis Vuitton outfit needed. It was cute for sure, but we’ve seen the pantless tuxedo outfit time and time again.

8. Miley Cyrus’ Met Gala fit was stunning

Miley Cyrus’ past fashion choices made me nervous to see her Met Gala outfit, but I was pleasantly surprised. Strutting the blue carpet in custom Alaïa by Pieter Mulier, the skirt was certainly reminiscent of the Black dandy theme, and the leather top added a touch of modern flair.

7. Madonna blitzed the Met Gala theme

It was campy, bold, and oozing nostalgic glamour; Madonna’s Met Gala fit was the singer at her best. She was serving c*nty mob boss, and the sheer gloves were a nod to her iconic 90s era.

6. Tyla’s pre-Met Gala fit was even better

I got so excited for Tyla’s Met Gala look because she rarely misses, and she did not disappoint. Styled by the iconic Law Roach, Tyla’s white dress was stunning and seemed to get the theme nailed down.

Unfortunately, after Googling the fit, I came across another outfit she’d worn the day before that blew her Met Gala look out of the water. If she had sported the black and orange outfit, she would have been number one.

5. Jennie’s first time at the Met Gala was an overwhelming success

Jennie

Her Blackpink sister Lisa might have bombed on the runway, but Jennie had enough aura for both of them. Dressed in her usual Chanel, Jennie paid tribute to Coco Chanel, arguably the biggest dandy of her time who pulled inspiration from the outfits of men around her. A serve from head to toe.

4. Doja Cat understood and delivered the Met Gala theme

Doja Cat was giving drama on the blue carpet of the Met Gala, dressing in a pinstripe suit from Marc Jacobs with pronounced shoulders, bold makeup, and a jarring animal print. Doja was the definition of “tailor-made for you” as she channelled 80s icons such as Grace Jones.

3. Doechii’s first Met Gala!

Though not strictly a pop girly, I couldn’t rank the Met Gala fits without including my girl Doechii who nailed the theme. She was THEE Black dandy in Louis Vuitton, oozing richness in a move that made me want to be her sugar baby.

2. Diana Ross, enough said

Diana Ross

I am unapologetically putting Diana Ross in the second position despite earlier slamming Megan Thee Stallion for wearing what was essentially a beautiful gown. Diana did the same thing, but she’s bloody Diana Ross and you could feel the money rolling off her.

Mother!

1. Rihanna is the clear winner of the 2025 Met Gala

Of course, it was always going to be Rihanna. She hits the nail on the head year after year, and 2025’s Met Gala was no different. She effortlessly combined Black dandy elements while keeping with her own unique sense of style in a Marc Jacobs gown, boned corset, and accompanying hat. Take lessons, people, this is how you do the Met Gala.
