The York International Shakespeare Festival is set to return later this month for it’s 10th year, showcasing a diverse range of performances and events in partnership with main sponsor York St John University.

Highlights include world and UK premieres, storytelling sessions in schools and libraries, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and even Shakespeare themed dance lessons.

This year’s programme also shines a spotlight on new work from Ukraine that explores the impact of war through the lens of Shakespeare. One of the main draws is the world premiere of Codename Othello by Ukrainian writer Olga Annenko, examining the psychological aftermath of conflict; it will debut at York St John University on Friday, April 25th.

In its third year, the Pass It On ticket initiative—launched in 2023—continues to provide free tickets for refugees and asylum seekers, encouraging wider community participation.
