10 things Newcastle Uni students love to do as SOON as the sun comes out

Tynemouth and tinnies anyone?

Seeing as Newcastle has been blessed with the glimmer of sunlight recently, its only appropriate that we feature a roundup of Newcastle student’s most loved activities to do instead of writing their dissertations.

1. Pub pub pub

Obviously, the pub has to be front and centre of this list. Name a better feeling than ignoring work and drinking a red pint on an Osbornes sofa at 2pm, I’ll wait. Unless, when you’ve done your work already and then have a pint afterwards? But who can manage that…

2. Sit on Jesmond terraces (rah)

The second the sun comes out I can practically hear the scramble of the rahs on my road to don their pink shirts and Tom’s Trunks and sit on their flat roofs, cig in hand, to iron out the details of their backpacking world tour (funded by daddy of course). Although maybe I’m only saying this because I secretly want to be them. Stupid house with slanted roof.

3. Walk around Jesmond Dene

Who doesn’t love a walk around Jezzy Dene, look at the goats, the waterfall and feel accomplished with life. Extra points if you get an iced latte before you make the trek.

4. Go to the beach

I still haven’t made my annual Tynemouth trip this year, but this weather is making me want to. As a London girl myself, I must say it is rather handy having such beautiful beaches on our doorstep, I even don’t mind swimming in the icy cold water #lad.

5. Making the most out the concrete slab

Unless you are privileged enough to have one of those houses with a proper garden (looking at you weird astro turf house on the corner of Cavendish), you have to make do with whatever concrete slab you have been gifted by the estate agent gods. That’s not to say you cant still catch some rays in you four by four slab, believe me I’ve done it.

6. Ouseburn ice cream

A lovely trip to get some ice cream on a sunny day never goes amiss. Plus you can then post on your story that you’ve been to Ouseburn so people know you’re different and don’t only spend your time on Osborne Road (it is cheaper though).

7. Sit on uni grass

For those rare times you actually make it into university when the sun is out, one of the perks is you actually get to sit on the grass on or around campus, coop meal deal in hand, watching the world go by. Thank God the Lipton peach ice tea wasn’t discontinued in the end.

8. Charity shopping

A little charity shopping in the sun followed by a sweet treat is one of my favourite ways to spend a sunny day. If I really want to treat myself, I’ll even go to the nail salon whilst I’m at it. Love you Gosforth and your cheap clothes and nails.

9. Exercise

If you’re one of those people who actually exercise (weird), doing exercise outside in the sun is sure to boost those endorphins even more than normal. I must say I can see myself being persuaded to join in beach yoga myself, what can I say, I want a dopamine rush as much as the next person.

10. Football in the sun

In the same vein, lads do love to whack the t shirts off and play a needlessly violent game of football in the backstreets of Jesmond. This one is male specific, and goes out to the groups I see in the street down from Jam Jar and also the ones outside my house. Please stop hitting the ball into my front garden, it stresses me out and I don’t want to kick it back.
