Stop the world: Lipton is discontinuing Peach Ice Tea, here’s what we know to be true

Not sure I want to live in a Peach Ice Tea-less world

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but if you haven’t seen Lipton’s heartbreaking news about its Ice Tea, you’re going to want to sit down.

The brand announced yesterday on Instagram that its iconic Peach flavoured Ice Tea is getting discontinued. Not only that, but they edited wings on the can in a bid of farewell which I personally think is too soon.

In the statement, Lipton wrote: “You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavour is getting discontinued. We know – it hurts (sorry if we’ve ruined your go-to afternoon chill bev).

“But don’t worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed. And who knows? Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback. We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologise for any inconvenience caused. #RIPeach.”

Everything from the pun to the ascending angel Ice Tea can – it feels like a fever dream.

So what the hell is actually going on and is Lipton Peach Ice Tea really brown bread? Here’s what we know

Lipton shared the news seemingly out of the blue yesterday, Tuesday 18th March. So although some tea fans hoped this was a very, very early April Fools joke, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

One hopeful stan wrote online: “I immediately went to check if it was 1st April??!!!! What is happening?”.

There’s been no further update from Lipton and nothing from the brand to suggest its pulling a stunt. I’m sorry, but why are we culling the best flavour, Lipton? Raspberry and Green Ice Tea were clearly the first options to go. I’m not sure I want to live in a world where Lipton Peach Ice Tea is discontinued.

Another explanation could be that it’s focussing on marketing its kombucha range instead. Flogging a dead horse if you ask me.

Whilst Lipton doesn’t give a timeline for when we need to enter our mourning period, it does tease that the flavour may return in the future – a move that seems a bit suss for some people.

Could Lipton be pulling a Duolingo move on us? Surely it couldn’t toy with our emotions like that. Although I have to say, if this is a PR stunt then fair play to the Lipton marketing team because the first drink I’m reaching for this lunchtime is obviously going to be a Peach Ice Tea. I’m taking no risks.

Whilst the memes are fire, the future of Lipton Peach Ice Tea looks dark right now. Until we have more concrete answers, I suggest we enjoy our final moments together whilst we can.
