Polyamorous ‘pyramid’ to Love Island cameo: All of Ne-Yo’s recent strange side quests exposed
Ne-Yo recently introduced his four girlfriends and their cringe nicknames
Ne-Yo, real name Shaffer Chimere Smith, was a staple part of many of our childhoods, but after releasing tracks like Closer, he somewhat vanished from the charts and was relegated to a B-tier celeb.
Being a celebrity in 2025 is hard work because if you’re not constantly at the forefront of people’s minds then you are seemingly forgotten. That isn’t to say Ne-Yo wasn’t legendary at the height of his fame with two No. 1 hits, nine top 10 hits, three Grammy Awards, and a platinum album.
Still, here’s what he’s been up to in the last few years.
1. Ne-Yo recently debuted his FOUR girlfriends
I had no clue what Ne-Yo had been up to until he shockingly debuted his four girlfriends to the world with a fun video on Instagram. It was like he was announcing the lineup to Big Brother and it was all rather bizarre.
“Since the world is so intrigued, I guess I should introduce my loves properly,” he captioned his post. “LADIES AND GENTS I PRESENT MY PYRAMID.”
Sharing a boatload of pictures, Ne-Yo revealed their names and nicknames which included: Cristina (Pretty Baby), Arielle (Twin Flame), Moneii (Phoenix Feather), and Bri (Sexy Lil’ Somethin’).
“Say something nice or move on with your life. We happy over here,” he added in the caption.
They all call him daddy.
2. Remember when Ne-Yo was on Love Island?
Ne-Yo was a huge 2000s icon with tracks such as Closer, Miss Independent, and Because of You, but maybe those residual checks are drying up because he appeared on Love Island as a musical guest in 2024.
3. He’s now vice president of A&R at Motown
Most Read
Though we haven’t seen any of Ne-Yo’s tracks in the top 40 since 2012 that might be because he’s now the vice president of A&R at Motown where signed artists include Offset, Migos, Erykah Badu, Diddy, Brandy, and Tiwa Savage.
4. He’s now got a solid bank of acting work
Ne-Yo is not a one-trick pony, and while he’s probably not going to be winning an Oscar any time soon, he has banked a strange range of TV and film gigs. His IMDb listed Held Hostage in My House, BMF, and Step Up as his most recent projects, but he’s also set to appear in the upcoming TV series The Pact.
5. Ne-Yo was a runner-up on The Masked Singer
In 2021, Ne-Yo slipped into the Badger costume on The Masked Singer and managed to get all the way to the final before falling short to Joss Stone as Sausage. Two years later he competed on the US version of the show, winning the entire competition in a cow costume.
6. He went vegan for a short time
Back in 2017, Ne-Yo said he was going vegan after watching the What the Health documentary. He stuck with the diet for quite a while, attributing his weight loss and better health to the diet, before his rep confirmed he had ditched veganism in 2020.
7. Of course, he was involved in a crypto controversy
Being a celebrity in the modern age means you have to, at least once, throw all your energy into cryptocurrency. For Ne-Yo, that moment came in 2021 alongside other names such as Lil Yachty, Soulja Boy, Akon, Jake Paul, Lindsay Lohan, Austin Mahone, and adult film star Kendra Lust.
All of them were charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission for illegally promoting cryptocurrency and all agreed to pay more than $400,000 in “disgorgement, interest, and penalties.”
