From shop floor to superhero: Cardiff University medical student helps woman in crisis
The part-time Asda worker helped a customer who collapsed in store
A medical student from Cardiff University has helped a woman in crisis while working a shift at Asda.
Joel, 19, is studying to be a doctor at Cardiff University and works part-time at an Asda store in Caldicot, South Wales.
On the 25th February, Asda posted on Facebook that Joel had saved the day in the local store.
When a customer, who suffers from epilepsy, collapsed while shopping, Joel’s hard work and studying paid off as he was able to use his learnt medical knowledge.
According to the post, Joel “made the lady comfortable, kept her calm and reassured her”, along with the help of some colleagues.
Joel even drove the lady home, staying by her side until her family members got there to look after her.
Joel said: “The lady wanted to drive home, but I said I’d take her back just in case. I went in and had a cup of tea with her and waited for a while.
“She was very grateful as was her family, but I did what anyone would have done in the same situation. I’m just glad that she was okay in the end.”
The post garnered over 47,000 likes, and Joel has received praise for his actions and quick thinking.
One Facebook user commented: “Good job Joel you are amazing kind hearted and a good doctor to be. Well done”.
Another said: “Well done for your caring attitude and for going above and beyond. I’m sure the management are very proud of you.”
