Bored of the usual Wednesday and Friday night antics? Feel like you’re stuck in a cycle? Explore the city on other nights of the week (because yes they exist too). Nestled in the heart of St Paul’s, Cosies is a cellar-bar renowned for its reoccurring Sunday reggae night with an intimate feel. Iconic reggae DJs and artists liven up these Sunday evenings, bringing positive energy to banish your end-of-the-week blues before Monday morning lectures. On the door tickets are no more than five pounds, which is definitely a rarity considering the free days of Brass Pig are a distant memory and the card entry to La Rocca is only rising.
If you have your own set of decks…
Bristol Uni Alumni, Lost Track of Time are quickly taking the house music scene by storm. In the past they have occupied Thekla and even Motion – one of the largest and most iconic venues in the city. Recently they have even expanded their reach to the likes of Bath and London. With their range of themed nights such as the 70s, and jungle, and a host of performers, you are bound to discover your next favourite up-and-coming DJ at a Lost Track of Time event, which you can brag you’ve known since day one.
If you are looking for somewhere more low-key…
If you’re starting to realise instagram story is full of too many drunken club photo booth pictures, then Mother’s Ruin is the ultimate cool-girl spot you’re looking for. With delicious two-for-ten cocktails (what could go wrong?), dim lighting, and an incredibly indie playlist, grab your skinny scarf and make sure you’re paying this city-centre gem a visit. Styled after a traditional dive-bar, Mother’s Ruin has an effortless but chic atmosphere, if you’re envisioning yourself outside smoking a rolled-up cigarette – you’re spot on with the vibe.
If your general knowledge is A*…
Sister-pub to Mother’s Ruin and right across the road, The Crown hosts a weekly quiz which is quickly becoming the talk of the town. ‘The Super Quiz’ takes place every Tuesday at 8:30pm. If you’re looking to save some money after realising you probably spent way too much on club entries and cheesy chips, the entry is only one pound per person. The bragging rights of winning is a coveted title especially as the pub competes in a “Super-Quiz” with two other Bristol venues. Even if you don’t win the cash prize, you’ll still get lucky, as every half time they serve complimentary vegan chilli so you really can’t go wrong if free food is on the cards.
If your go-to drink is always a cider…
Only getting your cider fix from The Cori Tap or Steam? Why not branch out and try The Apple, for a night out that is guaranteed to end just a little better than the ten before ten. Situated on a boat, The Apple has every flavour of cider you could possibly imagine, from Mango & Lime to Strawberry Daiquiri, you really can’t go wrong. The only problem you’ll have will be deciding what to chose. The Apple also offers a student discount so it would be rude not to take advantage – that’s practically saving money, right?
