Laura Whitmore shares the emotional final texts Caroline Flack sent her before she died

It’s been five years since she passed away

On the fifth anniversary of Caroline Flack’s death, Laura Whitmore has shared the heartbreaking final texts she received from her before she passed away.

The 40-year-old died by suicide on February 15, 2020, just two months after stepping down from hosting Love Island. In the devastating final messages, they spoke about Laura taking over the job.

“Hey. About to go see ITV. I hope you are doing the job. I wouldn’t want it to be anyone else,” Caroline wrote on December 18, 2019.

Laura replied: “That’s such a lovely message. I have met with them and had a conversation but nothing confirmed so we’ll see how it goes.”

A little while later, she sent another text telling Caroline she had got the job, writing: “Hey just checking in. I wanted to call but didn’t want to disturb you. I’ve been offered the role for this series and they’re going to announce it today.”

“It’s been back and forth last few days as you can imagine so I couldn’t say anything to anyone until literally now but wanted to tell you first.”

“I’ll do my very best to give it the justice it deserves,” Laura continued before asking: “How are you doing?” Caroline replied with a red heart emoji and wrote: “I’m glad it’s you.” However, she didn’t reply to the part asking how she was.

On another day, Laura thanked Caroline for the “lovely Instagram message” she sent and said: “Hope you’re doing ok and we’re all thinking of you and missing you.”

“Thanks Laura… feeling a bit better… I really am looking forward to watching the show tho… It’s perfect you and Iain doing it together,” she responded.

Laura said: “I mean I NEVER actually see him ha! Hope you’re somewhere lovely and see you soon.” Then, the final message from Caroline was a line of four red heart emojis.

Laura found the old texts, which she thought she had lost, after she got a new phone this month and was downloading WhatsApp messages from her iCloud.

She decided to share them because they “show a side to Caroline which is nice to remember”. The pair met in 2011 when Laura took over from her hosting I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now. Laura then took over Love Island too, which she hosted from 2020 to 2022.

“I really did hope she was somewhere lovely. A spa/ retreat/ rehab. I never knew the extent of her struggles or what was to come. The last message from her to me were love hearts. I’d like to think wherever she is now, she’s at peace and somewhere lovely like I hoped,” she wrote in the caption.

“I’m sad when I see the press and social media be so divisive and that we still haven’t learned from Caroline’s treatment before her death when it comes to women in the spotlight. Today I choose to remember these messages and thank the cloud for giving them back to me.”
