Liam Payne’s girlfriend finally reveals why she really flew home two days before he died
She left him in Argentina for a wholesome reason
Liam Payne’s girlfriend has done her first interview since the singer died and she’s finally revealed why she left him.
Kate Cassidy was in Argentina with Liam and they were there to watch Niall Horan on his tour, but she flew home two days before he died.
We never knew exactly why she returned to their home in Florida alone, but she’s now revealed the reason and it’s really wholesome.
They didn’t have a massive bust-up, and it wasn’t down to work commitments either, she had to go home and look after their dog Nala.
She told The Sun they only planned to be in Buenos Aires for a week but ended up staying there for two, so she had to return for the pet.
“I had a responsibility, we had a responsibility. We had our dog and obviously I never, ever thought this event would occur,” she said.
They rescued the pup from an animal shelter in Miami a month before Liam died and documented the process on TikTok.
In the emotional clip, you see them go to the shelter and take the dog out of her crate. She instantly jumps up and hugs the One Direction singer.
“We came across this little puppy that was abandoned by her previous owners,” Kate wrote. “Look at how she hugs him.”
They named the dog Nala themselves and the late singer wrote online at the time: “I am in love.”

She had decorated their Florida home for Halloween and was excited for him to see it, as revealed in the devastating final text she sent him.
The happy couple were initially fostering the pup, but it seems as though Kate chose to adopt the dog permanently after Liam’s death.
A source told The Sun: “Nala is a huge source of comfort. In many ways, she’s all Kate has left of Liam.”
