Here’s which Leeds Uni society each Gilmore Girls character would join
What if Rory, Lorelai, and the rest of Stars Hollow’s residents swapped Connecticut for Leeds?
Happy Gilmore Girls season! As the leaves begin to turn and mornings are spent clutching a hot cup of coffee, headphones filled with There She Goes, many of us find ourselves once again immersed in the cosy world of Stars Hollow.
From endless movie references and literary debates to town meetings and political discussions, Gilmore Girls is a show built on passions, quirks, and a vibrant sense of community.
But what if Rory and Lorelai, and the rest of Stars Hollow’s residents, swapped Connecticut for Leeds? With over 300 student groups on offer, Leeds University Union provides the perfect home for characters whose interests span literature, music, theatre, baking, politics and everything in between.
So, as we settle into autumn and embrace peak Gilmore Girls season, let’s imagine which Union societies our favourite characters would call home.
Richard Gilmore – The SongSmiths

via Netflix
Richard is, of course, a proud Yale sportsman, celebrating Yale Bulldogs with a jolly, fighting tune. This is why I think Songsmiths would steal his heart, representing triumph and tradition in equal measure.
Their award-winning status has made them a prominent fixture in the university’s music scene. A place amongst their ranks would undoubtedly fill Richard Gilmore with immense pride. Perhaps it’s time, Richard, to swap out those bulldogs for the Leeds Gryphon.
Emily Gilmore – Ballroom society

via Netflix
Like Richard, Emily Gilmore would equally be in search of prestige and culture amongst the chaos of student living. I think ballroom society would be the perfect match.
Combining romance, glamour, and just the right amount of competition, it offers an ideal outlet for her ambition and drive. Emily would quickly establish herself as a leading committee member, orchestrating events to the highest possible standard. After all, it may take two to tango, but it only takes one Emily Gilmore to run the place.
Logan – lacrosse society

via Netflix
Although Leeds may not have any secret societies to rival Yale’s infamous Life and Death Brigade, Logan’s appetite for adventure would undoubtedly draw him towards some of the university’s most daring opportunities.
Whether attending black-tie socials or chasing his next adrenaline rush, he would approach the university with the same charm, confidence, and recklessness that made him the unofficial leader of Yale’s social elite. Perhaps Leeds Lacrosse Society would meet all his needs, keeping close to an upper-class circle whilst entertaining frivolous antics of a Wednesday night social.
Dean – hockey society

via Netflix
Hardworking, loyal, and occasionally hot-headed, that sounds like the epitome of a Leeds hockey society player. While others might join for the socials, Dean would join for the love of the game.
That said, a few Wednesday night drinks with teammates might eventually convince him that university life is not all work and no play. Let’s just hope he doesn’t bump into Logan at Mischief. That would make for one very awkward encounter… yikes!
Paris – Stitch ‘n’ Bitch

via Netflix
Our favourite overachiever – it goes without saying Paris would enrich her time at Leeds with writing for the Gryphon, campaigning for women in leadership, and networking her way to the very top.
When lectures have been attended, and articles written, she would definitely wind down at Stitch ‘n’ bitch, After all, world domination is exhausting work. Her abrupt hot takes would make the start of any gossip sesh.
Jess – English society

via Netflix
A quiet observer, he wouldn’t join any society, maintaining his outsider status. However, I think Jess’s guilty pleasure would be at English society’s open mic nights. A lover of literature, poetry, and spoken word, he’d be a regular at Hyde Park Book Club.
He’d never admit to enjoying it, of course, but give him a microphone and an audience willing to discuss Kerouac or Ginsberg, and he’d be like a duck in water (or maybe a swan).
Rory Gilmore – The Gryphon

via Netflix
It may seem obvious, but it’s true: Rory would be the Gryphon’s star journalist.
When not caught up in module reading, Rory would devote all her time to finding lead stories, all whilst making an essential trip to the Hugo Coffee van, or for a Gilmore girl, it’s less a coffee stop and more an essential IV drip. Before long she’d be Leeds’s very own Christina Anapour, armed with a notebook and a dangerously high caffeine intake.
Lorelai Gilmore – Film society

via Netflix
Lorelai could have some fun at any society, but I think she’d love film society. Lorelai would make herself A regular at Hyde Park Picture House, bringing small-town charm to Leeds to display her niche repertoire of classics from Casablanca to The Shining.
When she isn’t firing off obscure pop-culture references, she’d be throwing herself into society karaoke nights with her trademark enthusiasm and complete lack of embarrassment.
Luke- Unofficial campus handyman

via Netflix
Luke may not always embrace society’s conventions and eccentricities, but beneath his abrasive exterior lies a dependable and selfless friend.
Whether he’s acting as the Union’s unofficial handyman, building sets for the Theatre Society, or sourcing ingredients for the Baking Society, Luke would always willing be to lend a hand. His quiet dedication and generosity would make him an invaluable part of the university community.
Lane – Leeds Student Radio

via Netflix
EAT SLEEP MUSIC REPEAT. Layne would thrive as part of the Leeds student radio team – she thrives on selecting the perfect soundtrack of songs to play on live shows.
When not in the studio, she’d be volunteering at Leeds Union Music Library and going to gigs at Brudenell or Belgrave. Lane would find both her people and passions with the union’s society celebration of music and culture.
Sookie- Feminist Society

via Netflix
Sookie is the ultimate girls’ girl, and Leeds Fem Soc would be made for her. Attending craft nights, cocktail evenings, or trying her hand at a new activity with hands full of sweet treats and fun bakes, she’d embrace it all with enthusiasm, only collecting a few cuts and bruises in the process.
Taylor– Medieval society

via Netflix
On a Sunday morning, while the rest of us are battling hangovers and scrambling to meet deadlines, Taylor is already in Hyde Park with the Medieval Society. As a proud member of the Historical Preservation Committee, he’d help bring Leeds’s medieval history to life through live re-enactments and historical events.
Forever committed to the cause, Taylor would happily proclaim, “By my troth,” before swearing complete devotion to the committee and its noble mission.
Kirk – ALL OF THEM

via Netflix
Last but not least, out of the 300 societies Leeds offers, Kirk would make sure he attended all of them. Hopping from GIAGs left, right and centre, no event would be too niche or too busy for his calendar. Freshers’ Fair would see him leave with an armful of flyers and an impossibly ambitious timetable, carefully designed to squeeze in as many activities as humanly possible.
While most students struggle to commit to one society, Kurt would somehow be a regular at all of them. Chances are, if you’re planning on going to a society event, Kirk’s already there.
