Glasgow office block targeted for third time by Pro-Palestine activists

Vandalism on building bears similarities to previous incidents in 2023

A Glasgow office block housing an Israeli-linked firm has been vandalised for the third time, with activists defacing the site with red graffiti and smashing the entrance doors in an early morning attack.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:40am on 28 January, 2025 on Waterloo Street in the city centre. Images from the scene show the front doors of the commercial property shattered, with red paint streaming down the windows and smeared across artwork in the reception area. A message spray-painted across the front of the building reads: “Drop Elbit.”

Police Scotland cordoned off the area as staff arrived in the morning to assess the the damage.

The attack bears similarities to previous incidents in October and November 2023 when pro-Palestine activists targeted the same site. Protest group Palestine Action had previously splattered red paint across the building following the escalation of violence in the region after the October 7th attacks, which resulted in significant casualties.

The activists are believed to be targeting German finance firm Allianz over its alleged ties to Israeli defence contractor Elbit Systems. Elbit Systems specialises in military technology for warships, drones, fighter jets, and land vehicles. According to the company’s website, it’s operations extend to cyber systems, electronic warfare, and high-power energy solutions.

This latest demonstration came shortly after Israel lifted its closure of the north for the first time since the early weeks of the 15-month war. A ceasefire deal is expected to see the release of 94 Israeli hostages and 1,900 Palestinian convicted prisoners.

According to Hamas-run health authorities, the death toll in Gaza has now allegedly exceeded 47,000 since the Israel-Hamas war began.

An Allianz UK spokesperson commented on the incident: “We respect everyone’s right to have and express their opinion.

“However, we have zero tolerance for any criminal behaviour that threatens the safety or security of our people, property, and business.

“Our business operations and service to customers and clients remain unaffected.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed: “Around 2:40 am on Tuesday, 28 January, we received a report of vandalism at a business premises on Waterloo Street in Glasgow. Enquiries are ongoing.”
