No way: The new season of Drag Race is starting with a wild Squid Game challenge

Drag queens playing Red Light, Green Light is everything I never knew I needed

In what is the most perfectly timed pop culture crossover perhaps ever, the brand new season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race has revealed that it will be parodying Squid Game with its opening episode. It actually doesn’t get better than this. I can’t think of many game shows more savage than Squid Game – except perhaps only Drag Race. It doesn’t get any more ruthless than talented drag queens hungry for the crown. And both sets of players in these shows are competing for a massive cash prize. Match made in heaven.

The Drag Race x Squid Game crossover is of COURSE, called Squirrel Games. Anyone who knows Drag Race knows how much ‘squirrel friend’ has been an integral part of the show’s lingo since the dawn of time. And from what we’ve seen, the queens have to play Red Light Green Light but instead of the classic Squid Game doll it is of course Lil Poundcake. Inspired.

The entire set up shows the queens getting taken to Squirrel Games just like the Netflix show. And what makes this even better is it’s not just the season 17 queens who are playing, but a load of iconic Drag Race alumni along for the ride too including the likes of Porkchop, Morgan McMichaels, Trinity the Tuck and Angeria.

The queens have to prance through the game and strike a pose when the music stops. Obviously, RuPaul isn’t shooting them too their deaths but the queens do get a custard pie launched at them if they lose. Pure chaos and carnage.

The whole thing looks so hilarious and big budget – just what Drag Race needs. I never knew how bad I wanted a Drag Race and Squid Game crossover til I saw how far the show would take this parody to make it true chaos. Give it to me now, honestly.

Drag Race season 17 premieres today on Wow Presents Plus!
