Our top five brunch spots in Leeds to cure your Freshers’ Week hangover

From bagels, to eggs, to sandwiches, here’s what we’d recommend

Leeds is well known for being a great city for foodies to explore, but with hundreds of places to choose from, it can be daunting and as veterans of the hungover brunch we’ve learnt a thing or two.

Whether you’ve had a wild night at Fruity’s or drunk for 12 hours straight during an Otley Run, a hearty brunch is just what everyone needs to cure the hangxiety.

So we’re here to give you our recommendations.

Common Ground

First off on the list is the perfect place for an in-between lecture break after a weekday night out.

Located conveniently in the University of Leeds Students’ Union, head down to Common Ground for a coffee, a bagel, and debrief with your mates about the night before.

Cosy Club

With inviting lighting and warm décor, Cosy Club has got it all – from pancakes to a full English.

Plus, they serve breakfast until 11.45am for the not-so early risers.

Bonus points because it’s right next to Boots, if you need a quick trip for some paracetamol and Berocca.

If you’re thinking of heading to this American-inspired spot, make sure you go hungry – the portions are massive.

And the portion sizes match the menu with pancakes, sandwiches, nine different types of eggs Benedict and milkshakes.

But what will you get? The choice (and it’s a huge one) is yours.

Old Bar

If brunch isn’t your thing, or you wake up too late, you can’t go wrong with a potato stack at Old Bar in the University of Leeds Students’ Union.

But be warned, it can get busy with society meetings and brave day-drinkers.

Olive and Rye

We’ve saved the best ‘til last.

Olive and Rye is a small and very popular spot in the Queens Arcade on Briggate. However, be prepared to wait for a few minutes or book a table ahead of time because this is a super thriving venue.

With under cover seats outside the restaurant, this is a perfect spot for all year round.

They serve a varied menu complete with veggie options and, if you can muster the courage, a few brunch cocktails (we knew you didn’t mean it when you said you’d never drink again).

And if all else fails, remember Bakery 164 is on Uber Eats.
