Erm, Katy Perry reportedly being investigated by the Spanish government over her music video?!

I cannot believe this

Erm, right so apparently Katy Perry is being investigated by the Spanish government over her Lifetimes music video due to the filming location. In case you haven’t watched the video, it starts off with her on a very stunning sandy beach, and I won’t lie it looks very magical.

However, the issue is the filming location for the start of the music video was the dunes of the islet of S’Espalmador, which are located in the Ses Salines de Eivissa and Formentera Natural Park. Because of the dunes’ status, they are actually protected and according to Spanish relations, prior authorisation is needed before anyone can film there.

And that’s where the investigation comes into play, as according to a statement put out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, the production team behind the music video did not request authorisation, potentially landing Katy Perry in some hot water.

In a translated statement released on 13th August, the Environment Department stated: “The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment clarifies that the production company responsible for the recording of Katy Perry’s video in Ibiza had not requested authorization from the Ministry for the filming”

“The Directorate General for the Natural Environment points out that, in any case, it could not be said that it is a ‘crime against the environment’ since the filming of photographic reports or videos ‘is authorised.

“In view of the numerous information that is emerging around the alleged infractions committed by the company responsible for the filming of the video of the artist Katy Perry in the Natural Park of Ses Salines, from Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment we want to clarify that in no case had the production company requested authorization from the Ministry to carry out the filming, and that is why preliminary investigation actions have been initiated.

“However, in no case would it be a crime for environmental infringement, since, as stated in point 2 of article 65 of the Natural Resources Management Plan (PORN): “The filming of photographic, cinematographic, videographic or any other type of report that involves the taking of images with any medium and format for advertising or commercial exhibition purposes, requires the express authorisation of the competent ministry in matters of the environment, without prejudice to other authorisations that may be granted by the corresponding authorities and bodies, including those relating to property rights.”

So it sounds like whilst her production team is being investigated, Katy Perry will probably be okay over her music video as no crime has been committed. It’s genuinely just one thing after another for this woman.

In a statement obtained by The Independent, a spokesperson for Katy Perry’s label, Capitol Records, insisted they thought they had the necessary permits required to film the music video on the dunes.

They stated: “The local video production company assured us that all necessary permits for the video were secure. We have since learned that one permit was in process, although we were given verbal authority to go ahead. Our local crew on July 22 applied for a permit for this specific location with the Directorate-General For Coasts And Coastline.”

They added the crew had “verbal approval” before filming for the music video started, and insisted they had “adhered to all regulations associated with filming in this area and have the utmost respect for this location and the officials tasked with protecting it.”
