Guys, Steve the nerdy pommel horse Olympics guy can do a Rubik’s Cube in eight seconds!?

Next challenge: Rubik’s Cube ON the pommel horse

The best thing to come out of the Paris Olympics so far? Not the medals, but Steve the nerdy pommel horse hero. He came, fell asleep, slayed on the pommel horse and then left. And the entire internet is wildly obsessed with him right now.

Steve Nedoroscik is an American gymnast from Worcester, Massachusetts. He’s a member of the United States men’s national gymnastics team and specialises in the pommel horse.

But not only is he an actual pommel horse wizz, helping the US to a historic victory, but he also lives up to his nerdy reputation and can do a Rubick’s Cube in eight seconds. According to his TikTok bio, his fastest time was 8.664 seconds. Talented king! His personal best at the cube is eight seconds, however, there are also videos of him completing it in nine and longer. Apparently, before he went on to compete the other day he managed to complete one in 9.32 seconds which he considered a good omen.

In a video posted by the Team USA TikTok account, they time the gymnast to see just how fast he can do the Rubick’s Cube and he manages it in 19.15 seconds before joking that the clock was actually fast and he did it even quicker than that.

People in the comments of the video are actually going WILD for him, saying things like: “I fear I might be in love with him,” “Officially a Stephen Nedorosick fan” and “He’s so dorky I love him”. But another person added: “Today I learned Steve has a degree in engineering” and he actually does! Steve graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 2020 with a degree in electrical engineering. Educated king.

Steve has since spoken out about his newfound viral fame in an interview with TODAY. “I think they’re awesome,” he said of all the memes with a laugh. “I’m representing people that wear glasses well.”

“I’m doing my breathing exercises,” he explained about the picture of him asleep. “We always try to keep our heart rate down and through that five minutes I’m sitting there, I’m just visualizing my routine over and over … that’s all I’m doing in my head.”

Nedoroscik also spoke about what it’s like to take his glasses off before getting on his speciality, the pommel horse.“It’s not necessarily clear, but the thing about pommel horse is if I keep them on, they’re gonna fly somewhere. When I go up on the pommel horse, it’s all about feeling the equipment. I don’t even really see when I’m doing my gymnastics. It’s all in the hands — I can feel everything.”
